CAS Rugby 2022

Barker’s highest points score against Trinity is 46, from memory, so a converted try would match it.

FT here. Either 37 or 39 to 12. Trinity were very game in defeat. Probably deserved another 7 points on the score. Barker missed 5 conversions. Barker still missing 2 from starting XV.

3rd XV for Knox Grammar with a convincing win over Cranbrook - special mention to Toby Harding who had a screamer for the 5 minutes he was on.

In other, less significant news, the Knox First XV lead by Jarrah Mcleod gave the boys from Vaucluse a hiding. Rumour has it Tom Davey is now the self pronounced King of Vaucluse with his inauguration at the post match ceremony.

As a scout, I can’t wait to rewatch this on Hudl.
I’ve actually heard reports thst the referee in the 3rd XV had been payed off by Knox with knox having 22 penalties in their favour to cranbrooks 2. Linesman we’re also members of the Hornsby retirement home. Also heard knox number 8 got put on the bitch. From what I’ve heard fromc the coaches and boys who played in the game, teh ref was an old knox boy and that he won them the game

WTF?

Tom Lawton (22)
Just from some inside information Skyblue, those boys both get a good chunk of their fees paid for as do most others. It seems the only schools that produces talent completely are joeys and view who both don’t have a single player on a scholarship. And even if those two boys weren’t getting their fees paid for, the majority of the team are all imports anyways nothing special
What an absolute pile of shit. Incorrect, bullshit, and sour grapes from someone who obviously can’t handle another school beating them.

FYI, I know of a boy who was on a scholarship at View - your story just gets weaker and weaker.

Would be interested to know the boys name ? And what’s incorrect about it.

I think the final score at Wahroonga was 49 - 24. There was a late try to the winger 14. He and 12 both scored a double. I might write up my thoughts later, though Cranbrook did turn up to play and all credit to them there.

I have heard about back to back high tackle penalties not being punished in some of the AAGPS games this week I thought I would add that quite a few boarder line high tackles got away in both the Firsts and Seconds games (Knox vs Cranbrook). We do need to see Referees being harsher on cards for high tackles in order to protect our young boys. Hopefully we see change next week.

So now everyone gets a week off to regroup. Then we get some interesting matchups. The big one is Waverley v Knox: I think Waverley are marginally favourites here, but it should be a close one. Cranbrook will probably go down to Barker, but won't go down without a fight. Trinity will be too strong for St Aloysius. My guess is that after two rounds, Waverley and Barker will be the only two unbeaten sides.

My 2c worth from seeing Waverly on the weekend...

-Game plan seemed based around off loads. I suspect they went overboard with it a bit as there was a fair few errors (and everyone was in on the act), but was good to watch and hard to contain when it worked.
-#14 and #15 very dynamic and made Aloys pay for some poor kicking. Give them time and space and they will cause trouble.
-#4 and #5 aren't the biggest guys in the world, but very mobile and hard working. Best summed up by a try in the 2nd half where they were both backing up into positions on the fields that they had no right to be in and they both gave nice one handed off loads for the try to eventuate.
-#9 added a good spark to the team. He seemed pretty upset by a hand injury he received, not sure if it was serious (he came back on towards the end of the match).

Will be an interesting match up vs one of the bigger, more controlled tempo teams to see how their high tempo offloading game goes against them.

I disagree. It's good to see the refs let the boys play and not call as many soft high tackles. Reminds me of how we used to play back in the old days!

Hi ap1, I do know the history of this age cohort, and I have no family member/s in this age group.

Throughout the years, particularly over the last 2 years, this age group has beaten all comers including Joeys, View etc and then all CAS schools, bar 1 game v Knox at Knox which was extremely dubious.... to say the least.

Probably not quite as good as last years team but still very good, just not the same size in the forwards, but no surprise there.
This team has some solid workers and also some very good ball runners, who can score from anywhere.

A number play league as well, probably explains the flashy/risky flick passing etc, which does my head in, but occasionally it works.

About half of this team is in year 11 ( 5 forwards), and the 2nds is full of year 11 boys, so next year will be interesting.
It does sound like they will run into an extremely good Barker side and a very strong Knox side this year.
If they can manage to beat Knox at Knox, which will be a battle, they then will play Barker at Waverley ( Death Valley) in the 2nd last game.
Barker then has to also back up against Knox at Knox, the local derby, in the last game.

Now, there may an upset from other CAS schools in the process, and I don't mean to belittle the other CAS schools, but the chances are this scenario will play out.

P.S. We did have a very big, 110k, and very aggressive mobile prop out, he was a back until this year, which will definitely make a difference.

Wlf, Knox v barker is at barker this year. I feel that game comes down to whether Katoa plays (assuming all other 29 are fit). He sounds like quite the influence, hopefully he is fit for CAS v GPS in a couple of weeks time

My apologies BBR, I got it wrong. The rep games are great but given all the teams are so mixed, and some try to just show their ability, it could go either way. I just hope this year, the rain doesn't screw it up, like last year.

hey everyone what are your opinions on CAS selections for 2022, I've heard they're getting announced after next week's game!

From a Knox perspective id keep 12 McLeod and 13 Saunders together playing outside the Barker 10 Katoa. A lot of the others are in year 11 but think that 5 Ericsson will be one of the Locks. The front row all played CAS 16s last year so would be in with a shout. I haven't see any other CAS teams play this year yet so assume plenty from both Barker and Waves. Im a big fan of the Knox 6 Ryan and 8 Miller but obviously you can't pick them all.

I've seen a lot of GPS and the standout remains Max Jorgensen at 15, also the Joeys 1 Barrett is a good sized prop and very physical. CAS will need good wingers as I think a lot of the attack comes of Max from fullback and there is good speed on the GPS wings to finish that off. Didn't think there anyone of note in the view team that was soundly beaten by Knox. Newington had fast outside backs that thrived on unstructured play. so id imagine a 14 comes out of there possibly Sitenni or McLean.

I like where possible to see combinations picked at CAS. The 2017 and 2018 teams were great to watch.
