it does matter a bit. If Kwagga Smith is in the SA side, then more reason imo to play McReight in ours, but if no Smith, then we might want to match the physicality a bit more and start someone like Samu at 7.

? 2/3 is Swain Frost Philip. Arnold is a smokey from ou of state who may or may not have something to contribute. Not on his last game but perhaps it was a one off. Rodda is from the last 2/3 not this current one.

Why stop at 2 and 5? Given the issues we have at 10, 12 and 15, surely Porecki can fill those spots too?

Neville started over Frost and Phillip.
Arnold just recently played over Phillip and Frost.
Rodda was always a starter when fit and eligible.
Those 3 may be your top 3 in your opinion but the Wallabies staff don’t know who our 3 best locks are - or at least it’s not very clear. Ask SA, Irish or NZ who theirs are and every fan would give you the same 3.

I reckon Rennie is just trying Arnold out to see what he can bring while he has the chance. I personally wouldn't be surprised if he was ultimately discarded.

It's tough isn't it? He came into the squad after a month past his season just after holidaying in Crotia and then he picked up a calf injury (big shock). We really don't know what he'd be like if he gets given a proper go but yeah that's part of the problem. The communication surely needs to be better, I doubt the South Africa overseas players went on holiday after their seasons up north finished - they knew they'd be playing Test rugby soon.

All our locks are all capable though: Neville, Arnold, Rodda, Phillip, Swain have all had at least one good game at test level. It will simply come down to form at RWC cup time.
Your talking like its the worst thing in the world the coaches don't know who's the best. Its like the old Phil Waugh V George Smith, or Hooper V Pocock debates. Those examples are of coarse an exaggeration but for our locks they are probably a good problem for the coaching team, at least compared to all the other positions.

None have played poorly that is correct, but the reason we don't have a definitive 3 is because none have really stood out.
Where's our Retallick/Whitelock, Etzebeth/Lood, Ryan/Beirne 50+ Test combo coming from?
I think a lock combination/cohesion is underrated, especially as they can complement each other in the LH/TH type roles.

Hang on - are you compl;aining because we have depth? Circumstances (suspension, injury, being OS) have kept them from being a consitent 3, but it's not the part of the team we should be worried about. I personally like Neville, Arnold and Swain as our 3, with Frost and Rodda making 5 good locks for us to head into a RWC with

I thought the exact opposite in his last two tests… but I wouldn’t say Philip is renown for that trait anyways.
I’m not ruling him out, but I felt his stock dipped after his last two tests after initially looking impressive in the second England game.

I agree, I think this is also why Arnold will potentially get another shot. I think he is potentially a like for like with Swain but with added physicality and experience. So if it came down to it maybe Swain would be the one to miss out.
I think it may be Arnold, Phillip, Neville and Rodda come RWC. Although I have a feeling Frost might take a spot for his impact from the bench (but not as a first choice starter).
