Lions Tour 2025

Doritos Day

Johnnie Wallace (23)
QLD preparing a significant bid for AFL's Gather Round.

Would be very interesting if they snagged that but didn't come to the party for a Lions test.

I actually think Adelaide are seriously in the picture for the third. The SA Premier is sports mad and puts his money where his mouth is - seems to believe strongly in the 'multiplier effect' of getting tourists in town.

Talk I have heard is that would have to be a very very very good offer to take its off Adelaide & that Tassie will be handed it for 2027 or 2028 if albo puts up the cash for the new stadium

If I was the AFL I wouldn't do it more than two years in a row at the same venue(s) to keep it a novelty with the locals and encourage the tourism a bit further (not as exciting to go same city 4-5 years in a row). Also dodges a bit of the price gouging which sets in, I've heard a weekend trip for Magic Round costs double what it used to be.

VIC and SA are spending big on events, NSW to a slightly lesser extent. WA and QLD getting left behind it seems.

And the ACT one-party government won't even come to the party with a new stadium which just might net them a WC game or two in 27.

Vic govt (either party) have always spent hard on events. But about gather round I cant see it working in a state that isnt easy to travel to from Melb. Maybe if Qld got a stadium up & going like they did today in the Barossa on the sunshine coast (as noosa's population doubles in the june school holidays) I cant see it working in qld or even perth for that matter

I could see QLD splitting it between a GC ticket package and Brisbane ticket package. Can fly into each and have their own accommodation.

Just announced that Adelaide will host "gather round" for the next 3 seasons, which fits into what I have heard about Tasmania for 2027 then the 19th team coming in 2028. From a rugby point of view we could see the Wallabies play in Hobart come 2028.
The problem with Hobart is it is so small. It would be a similar prospect to playing in Townsville without the state population to support the fee to RA to get the game. It would be a great weekend though.

Pretty sure it’s a profit sharing agreement because Lions felt hard done by that they generated revenue for other counties

I would love to be a sporting tourist, unfortunately my work needs 6 -12 months notice to get holidays approved so travelling for Super Rugby is not possible for me.

I would love to visit a new town (or country) every season to see the Reds play away from home, but cant make it happen without knowing the draw in advance.

Maybe they should throw a bone to any of the pacific teams who get paid less than what one English player gets paid playing at twickers
