I guess, at least, Herbert has some background in rugby management.

He has a background for sure …. His last few years at the Reds was during a pretty woeful period. He was head of commercial operations when they haemorrhaged money following the 2011 premiership. Then Herbert replaced John Connolly in 2015 as General Manager barely 2 months into a 18month contract for Connolly which he then sued the Reds for.

Herbert was key in sacking Richard Graham only 2 months after reappointing Graham during a review, he then oversaw the appointment of joint coaches in Nick Stiles and Matt OConnor in an interim coaching capacity which yielded poor results. Nick Stiles eventually got the job but was then sacked after 12 months. By this time Herbert moved on.

Carmichael, Cordingley and McCall all had their fingers in on these issues, so not all on Herbert. Just question the success of his rugby management background.

Failing up is what we do.

Herbert was the obvious short term appointment, he’s the only one that’s been in similar role from a rugby perspective and a little bit of appeasement for one of the agitators with a QLDer in the role to possibly leverage networks and relationships to get appropriate outcomes.

Having worked at the QRU at this time and (acknowledge a conflict) knowing Herbie well. You are way off here with your interpretation of events.

He's only interim at the end of the day. Ideally I think we need a completely fresh set of eyes, somebody from outside the state-based system & outside the old boys network. I personally wouldn't mind a female voice either, far too many dumb fragile male egos involved in the game.

Do you really think any woman would even apply after the job the blazers did on Raelene? Never in a million years!

I reckon we'll now see Waugh come up with agreement across the board for alignment/centralisation of High Performance, before Christmas. And probably an undertaking from the state unions to investigate and consult on further elements for alignment. I remain hopeful that each of the state unions (don't really care what NSW does though) retain their licences and continue to own their teams while operating in a more aligned fashion. Something a lot closer to what apparently exists in NZ, which is not the full centralised operation that some on here are claiming.

None of that was a comment on his character.

Results speak for themselves though. He filled key roles in an organisation that was quite frankly woeful at that time.

Sorry, I should have stated it differently: people may know who the individuals are as people (Goyder, Baird), but how many know they hold those chair positions?

Agreed. But in fairness, the precedent has been set by PVL. It seems like he’s made it play on for the Chairman to overstep the mark.
I don’t think PV being in the press helps the game in any way. He’s a solid administrator of an already thriving sport. All that to say, yes he’s in the public eye but to no real benefit so no need to RA chairman to also be in the public eye constantly

Agreed. We know Gil not goyder.
Inwould have preferred a private coup versus public but ultimately I think Hamish has to fall on his sword for Jones. It was a complete disaster and an expensive one and clearly there was material opposition to the move.
JS in hindsight looks like a bad call financially and whether it eventuates or not - prodding league is a) dumb b) in poor taste.
No idea about Herbert but if it’s temporary and he sits back and lets Waugh run it then I’m fine with it.

HM made a bold move and it was a complete and utter failure. Yes in business you take risks and they don’t all work out but this is like the chairman of a company firing the CEO, hiring a new one who trashes the brand of their best product which makes up 99% of the companies revenue to the point of putting the company itself in jeopardy.
In the business world, two people are fired there and it should be the same here

Well worth a read.

Little bit in here saying ACT aren’t in a good state and potentially default on a relatively small loan soon. But looking to prevent Rugby Australia opportunism to get the keys to the car
But we were told this had nothing to do with centralisation
