GPS schoolboy rowing 2024

hello @thewolfpack,

I would love to hear your thoughts about the view 4th IV race. View throughout the season have been quite consistent and held a good lead but the Kings crew have been hot on their tail. With Isac Funoa (K) not available to race with rugby commitments and a replacement rower entering the boat, could we see a miracle or a crash and burn in the king's boat? Do you think the view boys can hold onto the solid foundation that they have laid?
Good luck to all GPS crews racing this Saturday and god bless Scots

Not my question to answer, but i believe that shore will be winning this race. Word around the block they have their 2nd iv with quote 'new combinations with an average course time of 6:44' (@The Prophet ). If this is true then i would expect something of a 'christmas miracle' course time on Saturday for the shore 4th iv!!! Good luck to all crews at SIRC tomorrow, pull hard.

Somewhat of a prediction for what the First Eight race will look like tomorrow. Shore will try and show their speed early, the Stroke Smith will have that rate nice and high and I would most certainly expect them near the lead 500 in. St Joseph's will definitely try to go with them early, although be it with a little bit less race and more boat run, which will play to their advantage in the long run. King's and Ignatius will be almost dead even, sitting a little behind but most certainly nothing to be concerned about. Pushes at the 700 will put St Joseph's out ahead, Shore faltering a bit with King's and Ignatius still right on their tail. By the 1k, St Joseph's will be challenged by King's and more so Ignatius. 1.5k it will be very tight, Shore backed off a bit and in fourth. St Joseph's still lead but Rogers in the stroke seat for King's starts to look dangerous. Ignatius waiting for their opportunity. By the end Ignatius will have got close, but not enough, with St Joseph's winning by 4 seats to Ignatius, 2 seats to King's and Shore about 6 behind them. The rest fall in line.

In response to your predictions elliot, id like to post my predictions for the 1IV and 2IV before this race.

i believe that the First IV will be won by view, a strong crew for the majority of the season placing well consistently, with shore and kings in with fair odds. dont see much coming from the newington or the scots boat. same applies for joeys, one of the lighter and smaller crews in the race especially in the S and B.

Quite consistent with the 1st IV, i believe the 2IV will be won also by view. again a strong crew that works well and times far better then the other crews on the water and having the size and power to match it. again shore and kings will be key contenders and also the joeys crew after a win a gold cup. definitely some strong looking boats for this division tomorrow.

as always best of luck to all athletes and crews heading out there tomorow.

eager to see the unfolding of events in all division.

Pull hard and show some ticker ~ Phil

Predictions for today.
Kings VIII to finally stretch their legs at SIRC for first time since November and throw down a solid sub six time and take out the 1st VIII race, with Joeys half a length back and View half a length on them.
2nd VIII. View by half a canvas to Kings, saving the real dog fight of a bow ball win, for one of them for HOTR!
1st IV. View
2nd IV. View
3rd IV. Kings
4th IV. Kings

Expect to see boats set a benchmark today, last SIRC hit out. Few View boats appear to be scratched on rowing manager, perhaps more covid doing the rounds.

Don’t think Isaac rowed in 4th IV but Kings win comfortably. At Jan camps Kings didn’t have a 4th IV or 3rd VIII so good they’ve mobilised the troops and got a few back.
on the flip side worth tracking times against 3rd IV to address stacking concerns.
Hard one as you need equity but also the guys in 3rd IV have put in all season whereas those lower are more “social”, even if quicker.

Shore's 3rd IV was >16 seconds faster than their 2nd IV today..... must have got their race entries mixed up......

Well done to Thomas Kierse, Aidan Macfarlane, Angus Marshall and Henry Sherington on their victory today. Fourth Four was King’s comfortably and Ignatius took the cake in the ones and twos. Im 4/4 today!

Correction: St Augs took the First Four, but Ignatius was the first AAGPS finisher.

Well done TKS taking out the VIII today. As you say Rudderless, it’s their race to loose in the near future. Times are getting faster as we get to the pointy end of the season, which is great to see.

Well done to View for winning the 2nd VIII, first AAGPS crew in the 1st IV, 2nd IV and for racing competitively against Shore’s 2nd IV in the 3rd IV race.
