I honestly think Morty will struggle big time this year... I mean the difference from 2010 to 2011 in terms of his pace was quite obvious... and I think it cost him any chance he had at making the Australian team. I hope Johansson steps up, he has so much ability... plus running outside Cip and JOC (James O'Connor) won't hurt.

Correct. LJ is probably lacking match fitness at this point, let alone Super Rugby match fitness. Where as Inman obviously has been at the Force.

So now that Mortlock is pretty much locked into the #13 jersey, what happens to Mitch Inman- can he play wing or is he an out-and-out centre? I imagine the backline will look like this now:

He doesn't strike me as a player with the necessary speed to play on the wing. He'd probably still be more effective than Mitchell in my opinion. The 13 jersey is his future, just has to wait for Mortlock to move on. If not, he's off contract after 2013 is he not? The Tahs could do with his services.

Agree and IMO it will be very interesting if big Lloyd J can regain the form he used to display - hasn't he been in Italy and Japan last couple of years.

I think he's probably too good a player not to be on the park for them in some fashion.
If it is not at 13, then put him on the wing.
I can imagine he'd be a bit miffed moving from a starting gig at the Force to riding the pine. Unless he is taking a longer view.

Either way, as you rightly stated. He's a far too talented player to be warming a bench and in my opinion needs to be on the park developing as much as possible in order for him to reach the point where he is ready for international honours. The Wallabies need that physical presence in the centres and he could be the one to deliver.

I can't see Inman making this starting team if Mortlock is captain, which is ridiculous. He is a great player and I certainly think he would be a bolter for this year's mini-tour had he not been broken this year.
He's probably come to the Rebs because he's been offered more money, better post-rugby job prospects and probably promised a long term spot at the Rebs. Nothing is wrong with any of this as it isn't like he was playing for his own state anyway.
I've always pigeon-holded Inman as the reincarnation of Mortlock so perhaps this will help him on his way to being more Mortlock-esc.

Yeah he was struggling last year. His main contribution was his leadership and his defense.
I wouldn't mind seeing Mortlock start the first 3 games or so with Inman coming off the bench. Hopefully they could solidify their leaky defense in the first couple of games and then Inman can make the transition.

Have their been any notable additions to the Rebels forward pack? It was probably their stronger side of the game, but IMO they could use a second rower. Al Campbell is a solid player, but if you want the pack to match the quality in the backs, then he should only be considered a bencher.
Cadeyrn Neville looks very good, he comes from a very tough Manly club side via the AIS for rowing, 202cm, 120kg and plays hard
