Wow, doesn't say much for all those Catchpole Medal winners over the years if you guys reckon Horwitz is not even in the top 5 number 10's in the SS (and he missed about 5-6 games last year)

Yeah those awards puzzle me to coach.
How a first year head coach reaches GF and doesn't get the coaches gong - I don't follow.
How a first year out of colts and finishes with a super contract doesn't get Rookie - I don't follow.
A lot of posters here had Matt Lucas as the MVP - and that one confused me as well.

I had my tongue in my cheek, Dave.
As I've said before, if you're a good player, don't conceded penalties (especially for foul play), and are respectful of the referees -- all of which apply to Horwitz -- it must enhance your chances of winning an award voted on by the refs.
However, having watched Horwitz almost every game during his time in grade I think he is improving all the time and has great potential.
He's not ready for a starting place in the Tahs but I'd be surprised if he doesn't get on the bench again this year and go well if he gets on the field.

Anyone that has seen more than one or two games by horwitz an doesn't think he will be or Is a special talent is not watching the game with a fair eye
Yes dave we have seen the MMM do a number on him and his wicks but the MMM are a real force as a team but even you must know he is one I the few players in ss to shine in most games
I think I saw him live in seven games last year and was standout in two if not three of those solid in two disapointing in one and came off injured I think in an underwater game in coogee
Although that last one could well have been year before...
I think the real question should be how does toleafoa get a gig?
Odd seeing as he just signed for the students......

I saw 4 of his games last year, 3 of those 4 times he was outplayed.

I never said he wasn't a talent and i absolutely hate singling out players in a team sport. A team of good players playing for each other can beat stars.

We have a few very good number 10s at club level, Horwitz would fall within this group Angus, Ayoub, Hodge, Lane, Volavola - but he'd not be my first choice 10.

Then we have Super Rugby up a few cogs on club rugby.

In what position?
IMO he is better suited to 12 than 10.
His size is fine at amateur level with his skill set & leg speed, but I'm not convinced that package works at a much higher level.
Yes he has been in the program from a young age,but he also has a huge advantage over his competitors at SS level,as he hones his skills & works on his strength on a full time basis, competing against guys who train 4 or 5 hours a week.
We will soon see,as I'm sure he will get his chance this year.

If Horwitz gets game time with the Tahs then, in my humble opinion the Tahs will most certainly be in dire straits.

Interesting comments. Horwitz killed us last year. Particularly at Coogee. Whilst I rate Volavola, Angus and Hodge ahead of him (in no particular order) he's making the most of his opportunity. Good luck to him.

The other player you mentioned IL2W is not playing for the Students.

Best fair summary todate.

Made an error last post. Another reason why I'm never on here.

Toleafoa is not signed by the Students. He's ours

I thought Toleafoa a few years ago had a bit of talent at Penrith. If someone could develop his physical prowess he could be quite good hopefully a professional environment does that.

What are his dimensions?

Played 2 years in Wests colts, then a year at Penrith, last year played with Vikings, mostly 2nd grade there.Has the build, but his main problem is that he spends a lot of time standing out with the backs.

Its funny you say that when watching him in the NRC he was always with the forwards grafting.

Nick Ryan is 'director of rugby' there. That's for sure. But They haven't named all the coaches for the grades yet.

The Presser from ARU today about the Sydney Club 7's names Morgan Turinui as the Wicks Assistant Coach. Unclear if that position is for the entire club or just their 7's programme, although I suspect it is the former.

$10k up for grabs in prize money, but only 8 Sydney Clubs will be represented.

Doesn't appear to be any Southern Districts, Sydney University, Penrith or Warringah teams entered.

The Hobbits have quite a few ex Aust 7's programme players on their roster (Asquith, Pakalani etc) and I'd have thought that they would have a fair chance of performing well in the Club 7's.

What a way to kick start rugby season - a weekend of sevens that also involves some of the clubs.
Last time i saw International sevens like this was way back when Concord use to be our # 1 oval.

He's working very hard with the Tahs in the gym. He's dropped a lot of body fat thanks to sticking to a strict diet and is smashing out the gym work, He's coming on very nicely. Let's remember, he's still a kid. He's still only 22. Locks don't mature (in my opinion) to late 20s. He has a great presence on the field, and is a smart player. I expect him to do very well.

His dimensions???? He's 198cm and 115kg or thereabouts

Initially it was going to be all 12 clubs however due to come time constraints that I can't remember were explained (not saying they weren't, just that right at this point in time I can't recall) the clubs were informed it would only be 8 teams. Clubs had a deadline to nominate. I would expect that the 4 who missed out either did not nominate at all ( I am aware of one who wasn't interested) or missed the deadline.

Surprising the Rats didn't get a team in. They're a VERY good 7s team.

Maybe they're sticking with Crescent Belly - makes for a great weekend away to kick start the season. It surprised me to
