    Drugs in sport

I think we'd be fools if we thought performance enhancing drugs didn't reach not just into rugby but into every corner of professional sport. I've long held this view which I used to also think required cheap and regrettable cynicism on my part but I now can't avoid the notion that it's just the...

    Foreign recruitment

How did you feel about Rathbone? Didn't he have a similar recruiting pathway into the WBs? I think if you're eligible, you're eligible. The ABs wouldn't turn down a talented foreign born player if he came their way. But they have put themselves in the position of not needing to because they...

    Foreign recruitment

Like a few here have already said this is all just media hype. Deflecting attention away from the wallabies being able to halt the run of AB wins. If Hansen knows anything he'll know player recruitment depends on talent. If a talented player wants to put his hand up and say "I'm selectable" and...

    Justin Marshall

I quite like Marshall and in general favour the NZ commentators who, although are a bit biased at times, show good knowledge of the game. Marshall does drone on a bit and sometimes tries too hard to be "balanced", but this is actually a good thing. I don't mind commentators who are openly behind...

    The Podslam..some ideas

I'd love to hear from Grumbles. Or some other rugby journalist about the ethics and habits of rugby journalism and what goes on behind the scenes. I know you guys at GaGR can shed some light on this as well but to hear it from a person that has been covering rugby from a time when we were...

    Western Force 2013

Yep, he's done some good things in the NH. Let's hope he can get the force backline firing.

Quade telling it how it is

Either that or he's already decided to go to league (I don't see this happening) and is doing a ring and run. If that is the case it's a pretty cowardly thing to do and it burns his bridges making it difficult to return to rugby. In the very least it would take rugby off the negotiation table...

    Western Force 2013

Godwin, although a definite talent had some shockers in the U20s. It must be noted however that he was coached by Nucifora (who in my opinion wasted talent with idiotic tactics). And SNK doesn't really go so well at FH, just ask the cardiff blues. He's much more of a FB. Not sure how he's gone...

Quade telling it how it is

If it is a strategy it had to be someone else putting him up to it. Otherwise it's simply idiotic to publicly criticise his employer, no matter how on the money he may be. He must know he isn't indispensable and there'll be repercussions. JON isn't a small problem in this either. If...

    Quade Cooper Injured

We can never lose the 3Ns trophy. It's ours forever.

Where to for quality Rugby journalism???

Ahhh cynicism. Love it! Doubt it's a job application at The Rugby News as his job would be over before it got started - he's just not up to their standard. And not that I particularly want to stick up for Growden - especially after he writes an spakfiller article where the WBs have apparently...

2012 Rugby Championship Round 3 Game 1 Australia vs South Africa - 8 Sep

Mmmmm pre-game drinks at JBs. Very envious. I miss Perth. I think JBs sells more Guinness than anywhere else in Australia. Don't quote me on that. It wouldn't surprise me though. WBs by 5. Come on the Wallabies!!

    PODSLAM 77: What's In A Number? w/ Andrew Blades

No! We don't want to lose him from GaGR!! I also found it surprising that they outsource this. Cost cutting perhaps? How long has it been outsourced? However this isn't to say they don't look at the numbers they get and say, "Well that stat is wrong." But from the sounds of it Blades thought...

Ted think losses are Match Fixing

Just read your article. Fantastic. That game has gained it's own folk lore about how hard done by the ABs were to lose it. And guess what, it turns out that perception is crap! Great work!

Where to for quality Rugby journalism???

Good call. His articles are normally balanced, reasonably comprehensive and well written. What's he doing working for SMH?

Where to for quality Rugby journalism???

A lot of NZ rugby writers are on the ball - pun intended - not surprisingly about kiwi rugby especially. rugbyheaven.co.nz normally has meaty, comprehensive articles (when they haven't syndicated SMH's that is) Not to keep picking on Growden but his articles nearly always appear unfinished to...

The crocodile roll ruck clear out!

The welsh did that with Poey on the weekend. They pulled him forward and the ref got him for going off his feet. Obviously the crocodile roll around the head and neck needs to be officiated but the one that George Smith demonstrated looks fine. It's never that clean in a real game though.

This and your Carlos Castenada-esqe account of them searching for "a victory" - pure gold.

Reds vs Chiefs -Suncorp Stadium 13 May

True but if it went past the horizontal it was only by a small margin. Returning them safely to ground is in most cases an impossibility. Surely the situation requires the need to look at intent, and if not, at least make a judgement on whether momentum made it look worse than it was - I'm also...
