SLC announced that they will be having new coaches next year after a not so successful reign of 4 wins in 3 years for Damian Reidy. He is replaced by Shane Lynch and Brendan Flanagan

An understandable decision I think, particularly the 2011 campaign with a team that was good enough to win the premiership was an absolute disaster. Any possibility of getting Pat Richards back as director of rugby after leading Easts to the Prem Grade success yesterday?

Don't think so mate. Reidy has moved into the directors role after going a full season without a director

i dont think Williamson would make SLC first XV IMO he is very over rated player and cant really tackle.

I also reckon SLC would happily accept Williamson into their 1st XV if he were to make the switch as he is a consistent, hard-working player.
If I can remember correctly I think it's only his second year of rugby? Kid has a lot of potential.

Wow what an AIC competition!

The only school who has not won in the last six years is St Pat's. Compare it to GPS and you know what I mean.

They too are having a crack.

If there are rugby seniors or others reading this from any school who want to prepare for next season: DO T&F or other sports! It will make you a better player of rugby.

Flannagan is a great man/coach for SLC.

All teams have a chance at a shake of next year's AIC comp.

backline predictions/threats for 2014

Iona - Jayden Carroll (Signed with Melbourne Storm, Qld 16s League, Qld 16s Union, 2013 1st XV premiership), David Yabsley (2013 1st XV premiership) will be tough at 10 and 15 but besides this they will struggle without missing center Adam Hola and lack of depth in the backs.

St Pats - Regan Glynn (Signed with the Brisbane Broncos, Qld 16s Union) will most likely play outside center and with not much else SPC will be throwing the ball to him as much as possible.

Ashgrove - Might see Sebastian Fahey (1st XV 2013) move from wing to Fullback and have recruited well in Wes Mooka (Qld 16s League) moving from Cairns to board at ASH will most likely pose a massive threat on the right wing.

St Peters - SPLC are really lacking a strong backline for 2014 so they will most likely play a lot of younger kids in a phase to rebuild. But SPLC have also recruited well with an Under 15 Qld Rugby League player joining the school in Term 4 this year. He will more than likely feature in their backline.

Villanova - Will be very dangerous with the likes of Kenric Rotscheid-Felu (Qld 16s Union, 1st XV 2013) and Cameron Torpy (Signed with Melbourne Storm, Qld 16s League). With Felu either playing at 10 or 15 who is deadly off the tee will slot all penalties and Torpy most likely rampaging through at 13 will cause havoc for most teams who lack a solid backline defensive structure.

Padua - Not the best backline out there but will feature with Jordan Fewings most likely playing fullback but not many other threats to worry about.

St Laurence - Weakest backline in the comp. With Ian Filipo at 10 not the best defender but a fast Nic Jesberg at 13 will be very weak and lack some depth and size in the other positions.

St Edmunds - Easily the best backline and the most solid backline to be seen in years. With Clifton Setu (Qld 16s Union and 1st XV 2013) and Carter Auld they will be very solid in defence and running good lines all day and will cause lots of problems for teams who are not strong in backline defence.

Overall all teams have a chance of having a crack at it this year but from a backline point of view all teams are majorly shown by Rugby League players.

My predictions for backlines
1) SEC
2) ASH
3) VILLA
4)IONA
5)SPC
6)SPLC
7)PAD
8)SLC

Please take into account all of this is my opinion but id love to hear you opinion or predictions on the 2014 backlines or any big names i have missed out.

Must have been a tough year having no director, I'm sure a change in the approach will help improve SLC. What do we know about these new coaches? Is one of them the teacher playing at Norths? or have they taken the approach of other schools and gone for specialist coaches who are not academic staff members?

Interesting to hear Myles possibly heading to Ashgrove? Are they re-structuring their set up as well?

Shane Lynch is quite the rugby player himself, he has been seen previously playing top grade at Brothers RUC

Sam Thong played wing for the Villanova First XV this in Grade 11. One of their best players IMO and will be a huge asset in the back three.

yes i watched him play very fast and good ball skills may move in fullback if felu plays flyhalf but if not most likely wing or maybe a move into the centers? but i have heard he is having a shoulder reconstruction soon which may see him struggle to be 100% fit after a small pre season for next years season

I have heard this as well. Villanova will also have quite a strong forward pack with 3-4 Grade 11's starting in the forwards this year. But the competition next shall be one to watch, many teams have chances of taking out the premiership.

Interesting predictions, I see Eddies continuing their strong form. Padua have just come off a 15A premiership and their current u16s were premiers in U13, who were then beaten by Laures in u14's so I wouldn't write them both off as the bottom 2 just yet. I know a lot changes in 4 years, but they weren't near the bottom in 15s/16's.

Padua have Fewings and Gentile (qld u16) who are class acts and Lauries have the quickest winger in the AIC in Bayne. Filipo and Jahnke in midfield will cause a lot of teams trouble. Perhaps the size and power of Eddies will be all too much for them, only time will tell I guess

yes i believe all teams will be strong, from what i have heard bayne has lost lots of speed as of late and Jesberg from (SLC) is running mid 11's for 100m which would make him the fastest in AIC

Although lauries may not have the best backline, their forward pack is amazing and apparently they have a new 10 coming up from New South Wales...

Correct me if im wrong but from what i've heard eddies has plans to import 3 new players from the cook islands and the inside source has said that they are going to be playing in the backrow along with the centres. shots to eddies for ruining the competitive atmosphere that AIC is known to have.

That would be a surprise indeed AICHAWK. I am not at all connected to SEC but would doubt that they would be involved in such a thing:

1) They have plenty of talent in their own drawing area - I talked to one of their 1st XV coaches many years' ago who said they did their best to hide some of their talent from the GPS school in red and white - that was back in the days when they were not up there at all against ASH and others
2) If it is part of their ministry in action type thing...the majority of students at private schools as part of a bursary/government type thing are not necessarily outstanding at sport (certainly in the schools I have been involved in)

Your point about the competition at AIC is true though.

How about this as a selling point for AIC rugby/sport if parents are being swayed by GPS schools - staying at AIC appears to almost increase your chances of success in professional footy (if that was a motive for school choice): Dylan Napa/JWH from the Roosters are part of a growing mass of blokes who rise to the 'top' once school is over in NRL, Super Rugby and AFL - however, how on earth did the Reds miss Cooper Cronk?

This can't possibly be true. With St Edmunds being a Edmund Rice school it is against their policy to "import" players or give them scholarships fullstop.

Not the fastest. Kenric ran 11.17 for the 100m whilst Cameron Torpy ran 11.25, both from villa will be dangerous next year.
