Excellent to see their is life still in the game and opportunity to build it up. Obviously an audience out their waiting to see good competitive Aussie professional rugby.

We just need more product of the right standard and what RN highlights above is it: It is simple we get close contests, and oz sides winning and lastly quality rugby the fans will come back (and no we don't need to benchmark this against the ABs or NZ super rugby sides every time we play someone else)

As I keep advocating, a good AU domestic comp could thrive if we can let go of the old Super Rugby concept and construction. Something akin to the NRC but more towards a professional level. There is a still a place for our Super Rugby teams but they may need to be take a back seat to a new rugby construct or we add to them to build more teams.

SRAU and TT can be more of a European Rugby Champions Cup concept towards the the end or even better, mixed in through the year.

I think we have too much involvement with NZ, there can be too much of a good thing, which has been proven over the last few years.

I would prefer a small cross over at the end of Super AU where maybe two Australian and two NZ teams play a 4 team final series and then only have two Bledisloe tests a year.

This way if we lose it is only for a few weeks of the season and we can have good contests with other teams from Europe and possibly Japan.

One sided origin series. Two horse race in the nrl. Must be unusual for league journo Buzz Rothfield to see some competitive footy
LOWLIGHT

There was a rugby union game in Brisbane on Saturday night, Australia against a third-string French side. Aussie star Marika Koroibete was sent off for a collision so minor it wouldn’t have warranted even a penalty in the NRL’s Magic Round crackdown.

Plus, the game and the entire series was decided by a scrum penalty in the dying moments. So boring.

No wonder Nine lost the Saturday night ratings to Seven, 34.6 per cent to 27.6 per cent.

Holy shit the copium is real.

Sometimes I wonder if he's (partially) under instruction to talk shit from News Corp HQ.

But then again, he's always been a salty bitch when it comes to rugby

Would France hosting the Rugby League World Cup just mean it's in Sydney but they play a couple of games at La Perouse and Vaucluse?

Much like the Lebanese and Italian rugby league teams are just Aussie NRL players with ethnic sounding names.

Mediaweek has a bit of a write up on the test series ratings.

Brent Williams, Nine’s director of sport, said “Following on from an incredible Wimbledon campaign, we couldn’t have asked for a better Wallabies debut on both Nine & STAN Sport. A huge number of Australians were drawn to the series against France and they were rewarded with incredibly exciting, last minute finishes in all three matches. With more great rugby just around the corner, it’s a brilliant time to be a fan.”

Stan acting chief executive officer Martin Kugeler said: “We are extremely pleased to see another record number of viewers on Stan Sport for Saturday’s decider, which was the highest performing match of the series. This capped off a massive day for rugby on Stan, with our exclusive coverage of matches between All Blacks and Fiji as well as Tonga and Samoa also being very popular. We have no doubt these numbers will only increase further with the highly anticipated Bledisloe Cup and The Rugby Championship series coming up on Stan Sport.”

Looking at those comments it seems like Nine and Stan are very happy with the way rugby is performing. Great position to be in heading into the Rugby Championship.

Watching the replay of Wales v Argentina on Stan (why? because it's there), I notice that Disney+ was advertising the launch of ESPN on their service Star+. Apparently only in South America at this stage, but that would be another chunk of Fox Sports content gone if they roll that out to Australia as well.
