I disagree i think they went well def then but its hard when jackson is willing them on to score a try

You aren't giving Italy enough credit. They strung together phase after phase without making an error. That pressure will always tell. Aus would have knocked on before they could string that many phases together near the line.

Replay shows no obstruction from Aus on the AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) try. Italian defender took the wrong option and followed Kurindrani past him to open up the hole.

Seriously, this blaming the ref for our incompetent play is getting to be like a broken record.
All im saying is we defended for a good 5mins on our line including a heap of scrums which was a shambles where it could have and should have ended up wirh us getting the penalty.

pretty decent game. better effort from the forwards. defence and set piece needs more work.

Guys like Horwill, moore and Alexander still look spent. They are in desperate need of an offseason. hooper was generally the forward getting us on the front foot. Simo was also great. cant remember seeing too much from dennis when he came on. I like what i saw from gill in his cameo in the last 10; really trying to pressure the opposition at the ruck area. same with robo

Backline looked nice again.

Backline far too classy for Italy. Forwards better than Italy's but weren't overly dominant. Think Argentina away match.
Well at least this validates the fact that your backs will score and look good when you have a good platform up front. Hopefully if the forwards are not up to scratch people won't call for backline players' heads to roll.

Australia's backline behind South Africa or New Zealand's pack would be some sight...

Uh oh...

If we win comfortably against this lowly ranked team, it means we're due for an embarrassing loss next week against the *gulp* Irish...

How are Italy lowly ranked? They beat France and Ireland in this year's 6n. The day of complacently sneering at them are long past.

A few people wrong in their comments about Simmons playing blindside been a huge(Robbie deans) mistake

There is still a huge amount of provincialism going on in these threads - mostly it appears from Brumbies supporters!

Hate for Genia (apparently White is the second coming).

Hate for Slipper who had a good game (just because he caught the ball on the wing).

Hate for Cooper who was close to MOM.

Hate for Simmons despite also having a good game.

When is it going to end people? Can't we even support good performances anymore?

So, despite my good intentions and clever planning I still managed to sleep on the couch for the entire test. Thank youremirates stakes day for sealing my fate. Glad we got the win. Hope there is a reply.

Personally, I was really pleased to see players I've been sceptical or critical of play well. Simmons did a good job and the scrum finally put in a good showing -- not sure what did it, but surely lots of credit should go to the front row. Genia's first half was terrible, but he improved his urgency as the match progressed.

Backs were stellar.

Forwards worked together a lot better. Almost back to the Reds halcyon days. One low, one high on defence and rarely isolated and better body height when we had the pill.

With Fardy back we should roll the Irish and Scots. The players just need to give every team they play the proper respect and not get ahead of themselves. Losses in the TRC were maybe expected but losing to a second string pom side hopefully hurt a lot and will be the loss they had to have.

There's a certain irony in only addressing reds players, whilst ignoring players from other provinces (including the much maligned Michael Hooper), but I agree with the broader point :).

But what I can't understand is why you thought Slipper had a good game. I could forgive the sea gulling if he was actually good at it. Instead he stepped into touch and was manhandled by the opposition halfback.

I don't think he scrummaged well either.

A good performance. Much needed. Though I will save my celebrations until we produce it against Ireland or Wales.

Just shows when our forwards get parity, and a bit of momentum, our backline can do fabulous things. The quality of the basic skills was the encouraging factor- passes in front of the man, no dropped balls, good running lines, good option taking. It isn't rocket surgery, there were no elaborate backline moves.

Simmons was very good, as was Ben Mowen. A good return to form. Slipper also much better. We won the scrum battle, but only just. But against the Italians you take it every time.

And all the backs were very good. It would be unfair to single out one.
