Queensland Reds v British & Irish Lions - Wednesday, 2 July 8:00pm

Disappointing second half, dour rugby made worse by great defensive line by the Lions and the Reds just not having enough to get go forward.

I was disappointed in Lukhan, Kalani, Jock and Uru to be fair. All of them made some silly mistakes which gifted the Lions Territory and possession. We just couldn't play in the Lions 22 with these mistakes sending us back to our own half.

HMP didn't help things by being flat footed when he received the ball which mirrors his super season.

The Ref needs to keep Mario from running his mouth. I was in the nosebleeds and could hear him screaming at lineout. Just unnecessary stuff.

That scrum restart after Anderson just missed out on try is such a crap rule. No way the Lions deserve to be rewarded after a horrible restart.

On the plus side, Aussie Aidan is going to be such a relief next season for the Reds and more importantly showed he can slot straight into the Wallabies 23. Let Bell go toe to toe with Genge and Ross will shore up the scrum at the back end.

Was glad to see Henry out there and put in a decent shift. The Reds need some size in that backline.

God I love watching Brial just charge in, full commit each time.

After last night the Lions are beatable by the Wallabies. Our teams have shown they can be with them for 40 minutes. It's when the Lions throw on internationals against our third stringers do things go their way. If the Reds scored first in the second half it would have meant we were not chasing the game and making bad decisions ie Ryan chip kick.

Yeah the crowd was 46 or 47 thousand which is 90% full.

Jock would be unhappy with that game. He looked ragged. Something may of happened because his kicks basically lost all power after 30 mins.

HMP really does look really low on confidence at times and Werchon was taught a lesson. Our reserve locks are a lot better than they were made to look last night and I think that came down to a total lack of opportunity.

One other observation. They took one look at Nasser and immediately started calling for scrums and he answered that call. He is such a good scrummager full stop, let alone for his size.

The only real big pockets of empty seats were the $250 tickets which co-incidentally are on the broadcast side. Goal posts and upper tiers were full.
Said the same to Mrs watching it on tv here in NZ Ig. She mentioned the gaps, I thought it would be expensive seats, and on tv looked pretty packed elsewhere.
On game, watched it this morning, and was pretty impressed, Thought the Reds got stuck right in early, but looked knackered by oranges. Lions were good for their points, and when I said in earlier post I thought giving them a 28 point start was a bit over the top, what do I know.
One thing I will add, Lions are certainly playing attractive rugby to watch, and putting to bed the old saying of boring 10 man rugby in NH.
Great to watch as a neutral.

Also a couple of things that stood out, I was applauding in front of my tv when Lachie Anderson chased so hard and just missed that try. That was quality giving it everything I thought. And for Lions how good was Jac Morgan, not someone I have noticed a lot of , but he was genuinely good.
Also the fact how good the Lions were at deciding when to compete at the tackle, you waste time going in if you can't win or slow ball down, and it just moves off side line back.

Crowd looked good, game was overall good and as expected.

I don't really understand the negativity from some about the performance. A side without it's best test players v a side of the best of their nations Test players. You will hang around for 50 mins but they can maintain a pace that is unsustainable for others. Was hoping the Reds could jag another try or two but not to be.

The Force and Reds are pointing out a few ares the Wallabies should try and target. The scrum is the first one and the next is pressure the 9 endlessly. If you can force slow ball or rushed ball you can stifle the ball getting past 12 because the Lions wingers are going to be a problem. Big and fast.

Definitely not the result we were looking for but still a great night out. Absolutely love being in a packed suncorp for a friendly, the vibes were excellent even with the frigid wind. We obviously missed our wallaby players, but the one I haven't seen mentioned much here is Daugunu - I thought his strength over the ball would've made a big difference here, the Lions were getting really good pay off going wide one way and recycling quickly to move the ball tot he other wing. Having a wide threat to there ball would've shut that right down.

Highlight was the Flook try, low light was probably Doleman's reffereing being so bloody intractable. It didn't effect the result much but jeez it's hard to follow his decision making at the ground, never particularly clear what he has or hasn't seen for any given call.

Yeah i enjoyed it despite the result. The result wasn't unexpected, but i'd hoped the scoreline would be a lot closer. I thought the Reds did well in some areas, the forward seemed to perform well for the most part. Certainly not going to be negative about it.

At the game, i thought the crowd engagement was a bit quiet, the Lions fans weren't overly boisterous and even the Reds fans were quieter than normal. The ground announcer didn't seem to be the normal one the Reds used(apparently RA are in charge of these matches) and like the usual abysmal rugby match, the referee wasn't mic'd up to the stadium PA so you had little idea about what was getting said on the field.

Crowd was 46k which is pretty good for a Wednesday night especially when QLD Rail decide to close the Beenleigh/Gold Coast line and the Cleveland line was also closed(presumably wind knocked trees onto the track).

Sione (PAC Rugby / Wests boy) was the announcer. I was surprised as generally speaking he's quite a character, probably needs more practice to help with variability and getting used to being on the loud PA system.

I still have no idea what was wrong with the Anderson try. I wish that whole thing was played on the PA system as I've never seen anything like that before and it would have been nice to know why it wasn't a try?

It looked like he never had any control grounding it with his stomach and I THINK his right leg was also out at the same time as the grounding.
