@liquorbox , I don't think Falou is a superstar at this game, so he should have been pinned.
What's not a yellow, is if your hooker heads pops out the side of scrum where your prop be should and gets a polite knee . Thats a lesson is scrummaging.
Gifford would have cause more damage on rucking the skin off Macintyre's back.

Folau? Binned?

A polite knee? Can I try one to your head?

Who is Gifford?

The Reds lost because their backline does not have a clue.

Not. A. Clue.

Tahs showed their class? Nonsense - they are the most cynical side in the competition with their tactics of collapsing the scrum to avoid being shoved up their own backsides. They rely heavily on the ref ordering the other team to "use it" while they act as roadblocks to the advancing mudslide threatening to devour them for once and for all.

Here is a hint, when the dominant scrum can't shift the opps and the ball is available at the back, they get the call of "use it"

When a dominant scrum does get the opps shifting they get the penalty, sometimes you just have to get on with the game

And that cynicism was on show again when Hooper interfered with Gill at the scrum that Holloway made his impressive burst. I am not saying that Hooper engineered the break, but the intention was clearly there.

Really? Cynicism? give me a break, that is called rugby, to good 7s making it hard for eachother

The ref really should have taken some action (other than issuing penalties) when there had been a succession of 6 or 7 infringements on the trot between the 5th minute and the 15th.

Possibly, the challenge was there was a couple of off sides, a warning then no more off sides

The Tahs may show their class in upcoming games, but it certainly wasn't on show in this one.

Well we get to disagree, the Tahs were pretty average, they had no continuity, couldn't build any sustained pressure; yet went into half time ahead.

You often see more class in adversity than you will ever see in a rout. Class? Phipps was immense, Foley showed why he is clearly the best 10 in the country. No ball to waste, great decisions to close out a match. Younglings showing they have something to offer

Oh Pfitzy, are you accusing someone from Canberra of being cynical? So unlike you :)

Close association with politicians does it, its why Canberra was put where it was and no decent highways, to try and stop the contagion.

Surrounded by mountains, too. Back in the day it held the horse and cart a few days' ride. Now with the bloody freeway, even Campbelltown can't stop them.

Try this at the scrum. NSW collapses, yet again, from the 2. YC for repeated scrum infringement.

Reds no 2 first knee to head, nothing, unavoidable, second knee to head insufficient care, reverse penalty.

Reds prop, third knee to head, presumed deliberate, RC.

Media beat up surrounding Ready's yellow card. I thought it was pretty straight forward contact with knee to head of prone player and Fa'agasse was worse and obviously re-meditated

pre-meditated?
I think Ready's YC was a rubbish call and it should have been Sef, Ready shouldn't have been Yellow Carded.

Tahs hooker went to ground in front of a dominant scrum going forward. Reds locks and back row were still pushing so that momentum was still behind the Reds front row. I played prop for years, and when a scrum is collapsing like that the last thing you are doing is looking for a head on the ground to lay your knee into, you're more worried about your neck snapping in half. There was a fraction of a second between Roach hitting the ground and Ready's knee hitting him, in super slow-mo anything can look pre-meditated.

I also thought Tahs should have had someone in their front yellow carded before that scrum even got to that point, the fact they were folding like a pack of cards was placing both scrums in a dangerous predicament was yellow card worthy, case in point was the Tahs hooker ending up on the ground eating grass in front of a wave of boots coming at his head.

If ever you want a lesson on how not to play in the backs, the Reds had a beauty, think it early in 2nd half, ball is passed to McIntyre, he passes and loops to take return pass, which comes to him about 15 metres behind where he had it to start with, then he shovels ball out to Kerevi, it was so slow and stilted was almost comical!!

Just lost, pretty good effort by the Reds playing against a mostly wallaby back line and a All black that could only on put on 2 tries.

Thanks for picking up my typo, but you new who I was talking about

Ready's knee looks intentional to me and was much less obvious, it was correct to give him the YC. No idea how Sef got away with it on the day.
A certain UK ref would have thrown both in the bin and this site would be having a record day. Both made a choice to do it, being the dominant scrum on the day doesn't give you a free pass

It was pretty scrappy but I thought it was entertaining enough. All I learnt from it is that neither team is going to make the finals.

For me giving a yellow card for a knee to the head makes no sense. Either he did it intentionally which deserves a red or it was an accident which doesn't even deserve a penalty.

They were doing it to niggle, not injure

Not sure I get your point, kneeing someone is ok if your intent wasn't to injure?

If your intent is to injure someone by kneeing then you should be banned for life.

I guess Ready should have been YC'd for this effort if we are consistent?
Or according to Stiles, he should have received a knee in the head for being there ?

Nice theory, but with a collapsing scrum, and changes in forces on players, how does an observer tell the difference between an accident, which may or may not injure a player, and an intentional knee, which also may or may not injure a player? As ever, determining intent is not always possible or reliable. How do you pick the ones to not penalise? You really cannot, is the answer.
FWIW I think the first was more likely an accident and the second more likely not, but that's an empirical guess, which is probably not how we want referees to have to officiate in matters where players might be badly injured.
