Subbies 2023!

Great weekend of footy with an amazing day on Saturday. Glad we are seemingly through La Nina.

Interesting results flooding in:
Div 1 is anyone's to take at this stage with a log jam from top to bottom. 5 teams on 3 wins.

Top of Table Blueys going down to Waverly on the coast.
Shammies taking a much needed away win away from Mosman
Drummoyne earning a BP win at home over Colleagues to leapfrog them on the table

No real, standout teams, all beatable. Makes for a great tournament and finish.

Div 2 had a couple of scalps too
Hawkesbury Valleys big win over Hills to kick off their campaign this year! could they make a run for a finals spot?
Briars overturning a Rd2 Thumping at Porters (60 - 7) to Defeat Newport at Rothwell (16 - 15)

What a week for a Holiday! - Come back and see 4 upsets in Div 1.

The mid season break is going to be interesting to see how teams respond.

Eastcoast what are your thoughts about the structure of the Div 1 draw and how it’s going to impact the finals based off who clubs only have to play once?
Your boys must be cheering not having to travel to Lapstone to play a red hot mountains outfit this year? Though St Pats in the last round could be a stumbling block for your finals chances.

I would have loved a trip up to Lapstone in the middle of Winter. But given how congested the table is, I dont think any game is easy. Could go from 2nd to 7th in a week with certain results.
Hopefully St Pats have given up in Kentwell by the last round and put their focus into a Lower grade premiership UNSW style.
Do clubs legitimately know they have 15-20 guys leaving?

Breakers have a send off for its European bound tour group tonight. They introduced discounted player regos at the start of the year for those that were prepared to play and risk injury prior to their travels. Safe travels lads, hopefully see you next season.

I think their would be heaps of Clubs with this many at least. May not be the rest of the season for some but got to expect 3-4 rounds of missing large chunks.

I think that will largely be up to the Club Championship tables. And there might be a couple of clubs running for the exit in Div 2, regardless

Newport don't shouldn't concern too many. Strong proud club that can turn it around pretty easily and always fronts teams.

Should start lurking around Rat Park. A lot of their 1st Grade might be looking for the exit after this season.

Div 1 - can't say much at this point as CC has only just started counting
There are no clear indicators as to strength at this point based on First, Second, and Colts, as it has become a real mix.
St Pats only getting 1 win in Kentwell is about as indicative as Forest getting 2. Pats also rule the roost in Colts...
It boggles the mind that Waverley can win Barbour Cup one year, and then forfeit 2 of its 6 games the next. Maybe their connections to local SRU clubs got interrupted?

Div 2
Lindfield streets ahead on 1506 (UNSW 1078) and looking like they'll take almost everything. Chance of promotion but means 2 x 1st Division clubs must come down.

At the other end of things:
Briars 584
Epping 534
Valley 334
I think given their numbers, Epping are OK to stay (Colts being the question mark), but Valley might welcome Div 3. Briars might get a bit of a launch after knocking over Newport and will want to stay up there.

Div 3
Beecroft surely have to go up? Look like they've got talent in depth.
Sydney Harbour are next cab off the rank but can't field 2s off their own bat, so 3s is definitely out.

Savers to drop. Not able to sustain their momentum and look to have a rebuild on their hands.

Div 4
Merrylands will want to go up off dominant showings for the first half of the year. The challenge will be finding Colts as it doesn't look like Div 3 is going back to 3 Grades any time soon.
Most of the other clubs are stable in this area, but the JVs of Saints/Cove and Wakehurst/Brothers might not last.

Div 5
Is anyone here capable of fielding a second team regularly?
I see KOBs are having a few cracks at Halligan Cup, and did so last year, but the desire doesn't seem to be there to stretch their resources.

Cheers Pfitzy, Is there anywhere where is states the points and gradings for wins/losses/forfeits?

Ive just been plodding along under the guise of, win games get points. Higher the grade the more the points.

Lol, pretty sure Stirling Mortlock is just fishing there. Newport won't be going anywhere and I wonder if there's really that many top tier squad members heading off

Will Newport still be running a 3rd Grade and Colts then?

Newport Colts are coming first and Im sure will be dissapointed not to reach the GF or win it from here with 5 rounds to go. Im sure the Breakers will tough out the last of the season and have been upfront with subbies from the outset around mass player travels this year. The comical relegation call is a giggle for a club that has won the club champs, Barraclough and Clark Cups over the last few seasons.

Club Championship is based off your table points for all games with the following multipliers:
1st Grade x 22
2nd Grade x 12
Colts U21 x 8
3rd Grade x 6
4th Grade x 3
5th Grade x 1
Radford Cup x 8 Cowboy Cup only
Halligan Cup x 1 Cowboy Cup only

Typically we'd have 8 clubs per division and therefore 2 full rounds of home and away. This is the case in Divs 2 and 3 where the bye is the 8th club, so they've been getting CC points since Round 1.

In Divs 1 & 4, there are 9 & 10 clubs respectively, so only one round of home/away counts toward the CC total. As the bye is the 10th club in Div 1, for both Divisions the counting began in Round 6.

Hunters Hill had the Round 7 bye last week (0 points), and the week before (R6) got beaten in all games by Colleagues, nabbing a solitary bonus point in 3rd Grade = 6 points in the CC table for First Div.

Renegades have a First Grade win (110 points) and a Second Grade bonus point (12 points) in that time = 122 points for Div 4

However, when you go to the Cowboy Cup points, Hunters Hill have 700, and Renegades have 514, because all games count toward Cowboy Cup.
