Subbies 2023!

4 wins from 5 against the arch rival Hills today.

In Barraclough, Old Soldier screamed out to a 27-0 lead, only for Hills to come back to 27-20. It was a strange play to finish the game when they took the 3 points even when the ref had called last play.

In Stockdale, and the highly tauted Hills did not look like a side who could challenge. Never in doubt for the blue and white, with Old Soldier 47-12.

In Colts, Old Soldier win 27-0. Young Hills are not a bad side and kept coming all day. A few late tries made it seem more one sided than it was.

In blunt, Hills win a on the last play of the game 24-17. The match was a see-saw and congratulations to Hills.

In 4th Grade, the Old Soldier 40-0 against a Hills team down on cattle.

And so that ends the season. Undefeated minor premiersis in 1s, 2s, 4s and colts. 3s make the finals and will have more to say when we face Hills again later in the year.

Didn't you lose a game in 4s? Halligan cup vs colleagues.

Still, bloody impressive session. Well done to all involved

Have heard lindfield has had a great year. Have copped the blatant paying players on the chin (semi recent/controversial history) (so I’ve heard) and tried to rebuild to this year. Think they are far and away the best, think their player incentives will help them next year in div 1 as well. In terms of div 1 subbies think lindfield would definilyelt beat pats Drummoyne and Forrest right now. Although the issue is, this is the first year they have dominated div 2 in a while. Will they be able to continue it into div 1? Or will this be a blip in the radar. Extremely eager, as I would love a team to push hunters and be a real underdog

We are down to the pointy end, so Woody (after polishing off a batch of Woodstock's finest) is going to predict the outcomes of each and every grade. With 2 competition rounds to go for the lower divisions, let's get into it.
Here are Woody's fearless Division 2 predictions - Part 1:
Barraclough Cup
1. Lindfield (53 points): HILLS (H), BYE -
Will be looking to finish their dominant regular season undefeated by beating Hills at home. Then sit back and watch what happens and prepared for their major semi against Uni. Well deserved minor premiers. FINISH 1st (58 points)
2. UNSW (41):
BRIARS (H), HILLS (A) - Should have the firepower to put both teams away, although the road trip to Hills won't be without its challenges. FINISH 2nd (50 points)
3. Hills (24):
LINDFIELD (A), UNSW (H) - The toughest run home in the history of Subbies rugby. Will be challenged to take a point from the last two games. Will be hoping for other results to go their way. Finish 5th (24 points)
4. Epping (22):
NEWPORT (H), BRIARS (A) - The for/against is horrendous, but still in with a shot at the post-season. Will look to put away the teams below them, Newport at home and then see what Briars have in the last round, which is a big planned day. Finish 3rd (31 points)
5. Newport (20):
EPPING (A), HVALLEY (H) - Travelling away has not been good for the Newport lads so they may choose to focus on the final round fixture and go for the BP win. Finish 4th (25 points)
6. Briars (14):
UNSW (A), EPPING (H) - Have the ability to run up one win in the final two rounds, although it looks as though finals is beyond them. Finish 6th (15 points)
7. Hawkesbury Valley (9):
BYE, NEWPORT (A) - A tough season for the Valley lads ends as far away from home as possible. Seems ridiculous, you go from the bye to an away fixture at Newport, but that's the draw. Finish 7th (10 points)

Barraclough Cup
1. Lindfield (52 points): HILLS (H), BYE -
Like first grade, they will want to finish the season undefeated. Their defence is ridiculously good, less than a try per game. Hills will put up a fit but home crowd and 'clubby corner' get them home. FINISH 1st (57 points)
2. UNSW (39):
BRIARS (H), HILLS (A) - Will want to put away Briars next game to lock in second position and repeat the major semi in forst grade. I think they will be pipped by a defiant Hills team. FINISH 2nd (45 points)
3. Hills (35):
LINDFIELD (A), UNSW (H) - Hoping for an upset in the Briars/Uni game, however, will have to settle for 3rd. Finish 3rd (39 points)
4. Hawkesbury Valley (21):
BYE, NEWPORT (A) - Unfortunately I think they will be ambushed by Newport in the last round, however, they squeak in based on the teams below them not getting it done. Finish 4th (21 points)
5. Briars (14):
UNSW (A), EPPING (H) - Should have Epping's measure in the last round, but with nothing to play for...you'd think it wouldn't be enough. Finish 5th (15 points)
6. Newport (10):
EPPING (A), HVALLEY (H) - Probably just waiting for the end of the year. Question is how many will they get to Epping after only having 10 against Lindfield. Finish 6th (10 points)
4. Epping (22):
NEWPORT (H), BRIARS (A) - Will be hoping for something to go their way in the last two rounds. Should be able to get over the top of Newport at home, then a challenge at Briars. Finish 7rd (10 points)
Not looking any clearer in Barraclough for 3rd and 4th spot after yesterday's games. Hills picked up a bonus point against Lindfield, while Newport beating Epping was probably a but unexpected given recent results.

1 round to go:

3rd. Hills - 25: UNSW (H)
4th. Newport - 24: Valley (H)
5th. Epping - 22: Briars (A)

Hills still have the most difficult job, but getting within 7 of Lindfield will given them confidence. Epping should be able to get the job done, but we were pretty ordinary yesterday and Briars can pull a game out when they want to. Newport will be confident, as Valley might struggle to get numbers to Newport as they don't have a lot to play for.

The top 2 would probably prefer Hills to miss out, as they've been to only ones to get even close to them this season.

Breakers number 10 finally returned from a Round 2 injury. With the Allen brothers back in business it will make a big difference to Breakers attack and kicking play.

Definitely made a difference.
We knew what was coming, spoke about the kicking game in the warm up, but didn't react and were sloppy in attack and defence.
Newport played very well, considering they had numerous injuries during the game, and still 'guts'ed out the win.

Forest vs Mosman at Melwood will decide who is heading down for a brief stint with those grubby Div 2 heathens.

DIVISION 2 LAST ROUND REPERCUSSIONS
BARRACLOUGH:

Anyway, it looks like three sudden death games in the Barraclough Cup for the final round. Almost 'win or go home' games.
3rd place Hills host UNSW. In the 'safest' position, as they can still qualify if they lose and other results go their way;
4th place Newport host Hawkesbury Valley. Not sure what Valley will bring after the bye, but you just never know with them. Can qualify with a loss as well.
5th place Epping visit Briars. This is a MUST WIN game for them. Even with a win, they need one of the other two teams to lose. Win with a BP and they place semis. Just a win will rely on Hills not being within 7 and a 4try BP.
STOCKDALE
4th place Hawkesbury Valley visit Newport. This is an uncertain game. Newport much better at home. Valley as far away from home as possible. A single BP gets them home.
5th place Briars host Epping. The Rams won their first Stockdale game for 2023 at home yesterday. Briars need a BP win and the Valley result to go their way, all while overcoming the points differential.
ROBERTSON
4th place Epping visit Briars and will be searching for the BP win to lock in that fourth place.
5th place Hills host UNSW needing the BP win as well and hoping Epping do anything but collect 5 points. Being equal on points doesn't help them because Epping have more wins.
6th place Valley visit Newport in what is going to be a tough encounter.
All three teams are locked on 17 points.
BLUNT
Semi final spots are locked away with Epping minor premiers, Hills second, Lindfield third and UNSW fourth.

Last round and all three games will have an effect on the semis. That's good for rugby!

DIVISION 3 LAST ROUND REPERCUSSIONS
CLARK:

Top three are locked in (Sydney Harbour, Beecroft, Knox) while Barker and Harlequins shoot it out for fourth spot at Turramurra Oval at 3:15pm.
FARRANT
Not sure anyone know what's going on with this comp with all the forfeits.
Knox (bye) are currently in fourth place, level with Barker but ahead on wins. Barker need to find a bonus point minimum to grab fourth spot and a repeat next week in the minor semi.
NICHOLSON (COLTS)
The top four are locked in, however the 2-4 order could change. Easts (2nd) have Iggies, who have forfeited recently. Beecroft play Manly, loser gets fourth.
