Just listened to Press Conference..so Perth Spirit in the NRC will remain..that is at least one positive..as hopefully the NRC can become a long form semi pro domestic competition..as to be honest much more interested watching this sort of competition than Super Rugby.

so you think any player who thinks they have a chance for higher honours than club will stick around to play NRC in Perth?
yeah,right

So, according to Stooke this decision was never about financial viability or on-field performances, rather the Force were contracturally the easiest team to cut... so basically, there's no evidence to support the argument that this is best for Australia rugby, it was simply the easiest option.

What a disgrace, sack the whole damm board and sue them for their wages, its criminal what has happened to Australian rugby

I don't think anyone is suggesting the Spirit makes up for the loss of the Force, just trying to find some positives in this whole shit fight.

Hard to see any way forward without basically a coup and a complete rebuild (and probably rebrand) of the ARU.

Seriously I can not see myself wearing a Wallabies jumper for the Bledisloe game next week. What does the jumper stand for now. The coat of arms, the Kangaroo and Emu don't take a backwards step yet we seemed all too willing to sell out to bring Argentina and Japan into the comp to the detriment of the original three nations.

ARU you are supposed to have our backs. You sold us out!

The Outrage is completely understandable.

But is it really a revelation that it was going to come down to who's easier to cut within the bounds of the terrible deals they'd negotiated for themselves?

I mean, did anyone really believe anything that came spewing out of their mouths at the Press Conference?

I am somewhat bemused (not amused in any way) at the angst that has so suddenly erupted over the last few months and is now reaching Vesuvius type levels.

Quite a number of posters have been banging on about reform of management, the lack of real accountability, integrity in process and serious questions about conflicts of interest on the board and we were roundly criticised and castigated. This situation and what will happen over the next few years to the remaining teams has been a slowly emerging train wreck that was predictable but too many people were blinded by loyalties and emotion to see it coming. Today we have so many passionate Force fans feeling betrayed and somewhat lost because of this decision. It is understandable, but really it is not a great loss, the competition itself is already in its death throes and the Force have perhaps been culled a bit earlier than the rest of the Australian sides. It will be hard to say if the lack of crowds at Wallabies games this year will be due to the disdain for the ARU or because of the shite Rugby they have provided since 2015, which was a bright light in a sea of mediocrity.

For me the only way forward would have been a merging of the Rebels and Brumbies, a dissolution of the ARU and state Unions, removal of RUPA from any position on the board/replacement body except as an advisory/consultative role and crucially after 2020 moving away from Super Rugby altogether be it as a Trans Tasman comp or a south pacific competition.

The opportunity is passing and a continuation of Super Rugby as it is will see the Rebels and Brumbies fold followed by the Tahs and Reds and ARU. It is sad but perhaps if that ultimate breakdown happens we can actually build a new model that will be sustainable and actually grow the game.

A very poor and gutless decision.
In a couple of years when the current SANZAR deal ends we may see Super Rugby canned as SA opts out completely. "May" I say.
The ARU will be regretting this move then if we wish to enter a trans Tasman/Asian/Pacific comp.

Surely any kind of merger would have been met with tempered approval rather than this reaction? Who the fuck has been driving the bus at the ARU for the past few years? Are they all totally incompetent?

Apparently so............
Many more questions remain than answers

The whole sordid thing has got a really bad smell about it! The sudden sale by Cox as well smells like one big pot of collusion with ARU as well. Thanks Clyne, Pulver et al you've effectively ruined the one team that my young fella was inspiring to play for! No amount of coin could replace that. Dogs the whole fucken lot of them.

So Super Rugby folds and a new Trans Tasman comp emerges in it's place. How do the Wallabies get better in the future when you have just shut down one of the best new talent pools just now coming into fruition and delivering talent into the Wallabies and bringing some great juniors through the ranks.

Once you shut it down you can't come back in 10 years and turn the tap back on and expect a steady stream of talent to flow. You will have lost all the interest and pathways which have been established. What is the cost of the opportunity being lost now here for rugby in WA.

Whatever structure a professional rugby competition takes in the future we deserved our spot in it based on merit.

Interim ARU Board should be set up with the Presidents of each of the Member Unions plus one RUPA and Stookes can be the interim Chairman .
1. Bring back Force
2. Bring in investigative accountants to trawl through financials
3. Bring in ASIC for complete governance overhaul
4. Appoint new CEO with vision to grow the game

Unbelievable really. Is there any other sporting body that would reject the offer of one of the richest people in the country to ensure the long term financial viability of the sport in a state? Forrest wasn't even seeking any personal control.

This has the hallmarks of a decision made by people incapable of changing their minds. The ARU simply must die and be reborn.
Did Twiggy offer to help in 2015?

Yes but Super Rugby is severely fucked and many of us on here are hoping something like the NRC could morph into a national domestic competition many of us crave (if NZ continues to not want to play ball in Trans Tasman comp) and hence important at least Perth Spirit still part of NRC.

Time for a public petition to lobby for the removal of the ARU as the Australian Rugby public have had enough under this inept sporting administration. The ARU has to go........Time for public opinion to be much more visible on what they think about the ARU and its lack of support to run the game in this country.

The ARU are on a hiding to nothing, Aus rugby is screwed, they are bleeding cash, the current Super rugby format has failed and the Aus sides are the pants

Something had to change

Was killing the Force the right decision? Time will tell

But something had to change

Yeah,something did have to change.
How about changing so the management so the joint is professionally run?
There is a history of franchises needing bailing out, does the ARU see there is a common issue & demand to oversee how their money is spent to ensure its not repeated on a regular basis?
Does it see that many functions of each franchise could be centralised, avoiding duplication and save millions each year?
When it decides to cull a team for the health of the game, does it announce a transparent process so the public can understand why the weakest franchise was chosen?

It feels surreal after watching a better coached and more enthusiastic Force put the Tahs to the sword.
