The first 20 minutes was all Easts, the last twenty minutes Easts seemed to run out of puff.

Based on what Eyes and Ears is reporting on Shute Shield points thread:
Aust Schools - 10 points
Div 1 State Schools Rep in last 2 years - 4 points
with a cap of 50 for 1sts Colts

This potential player roster would breach any points cap for colts 1.

Also isn't Luani contracted to Tigers (according to Lee G)?

It would be Uni sometimes manage to coax half of them to chill in Colts 2 for a year and 1 or 2 of them to play 1st and 2nd grade.

It works out.

Its only takes one glance at the number of NSW / Aus representative the students have poached from schoolboy level to see it can easily work out.

So THAT'S where he went.

He is more a natural 7 (where he played his rep footy) but play 8 in the Vic Schoolboys league where the boys are smaller, probably fits Uni's high work rate in all forward positions mold.

He would of been a certain to start Aussie schoolboys if he wasn't in Gills year.

Are these the Uni lists for this weekend? If so, it is interesting to see that Tommy Lamont (Joeys 09) has jumped ahead of Joe Welch ('View 08, 09) for the big games at the money-end of the season.

In the schools rep stuff last year, Welch played GPS 1s / NSW 1 / starting prop Aus A schools; Lamont sat behind him at every level - GPS 2s / NSW 2 / bench prop Aus A schools. They were both standouts for their respective school 1st XV. I heard Randwick tried to get Lamont, but ended up settling for his NSW teammate Jess Roche (who has been going great).

Welch has spent a large part of the season either injured or sick. He lost a huge amount of weight at the start of the year (15-20kgs i'm told!) due to glandular fever type condition and has not really fully recovered. He is on the way back i'm told but is still some way off his best. Hopefully he will be back to full fitness next year - as on his day he is a great player. Gpod on Lamont for taking his chance.

[Jack De Guingand] would of been a certain to start Aussie schoolboys if he wasn't in Gills year.

I think you're right, especially with Hooper not there either, and Jack was in the Oz A team, wasn't he? Good player.

Not to the point but what would have happened if Hooper was fit enough to play last year? I reckon that Hooper would be picked as the 6 and Gill as the 7 - an opinion which may bring a few squeals from BSHS connections about the merits of Tuapou. For me it would have been a no brainer.

Can I just highlight the 3 Sydney Granmar boys in colts 1. Just proves how hard it is for SGS boys to get ahead while at school. And don't quote me Fryer. I'm talking about the others.

Tom Lamont has been in fine form throughout the season and deserves his spot in the top side his workrate is second to none, also much like Sam Talakai in 2's colts has been playing great consistant footy and applying some pressure on Clay Brodie.

Duncan Boyd-Jones has been in sublime form for 2's colts aswell as Matthew Armour at fullback both in contention with firsts spots weekly. But by far the best players this season have been Jack De Guingan and Tom Boidin both have a bright future there combination around the park is first class will go close to playing 1st grade nxt season.

Well Jack toured Europe so he was presumably the highest rated forward in the Oz A line-up.

But with Hooper's injury highlighted, who knows?

For mine the player that has really caught the eye this season has been David Hickey. He has largely been used in 2nds Colts but he could be anything. A truckload of the M factor, not the most common characteristic among Uni players.

Can't you call them GPS 1sts 2008 instead of Sydney Uni 1sts Colts?

Hardly - only Heslop, Larsen, and Jarvis started for GPS against CAS in 2008, and just Larsen started against CHS. No doubt one or two from the Twos came on as reserves though. Brodie and Heliwell were CAS.

Hickey is top class. Makes a mockery of all the schoolboy stars picked above him.

Yep - he's fantastic. The move to hooker for yr 11 at Joeys was the best thing for the team, but not necessarily the best thing for Hick's rep chances. Joeys tend to favour a forward pack where the backrow and hooker (and even the props) play a mobile, high workrate game. With the other talent around in the backrow (Dicembre, Bond), they left Hickey at 2 for 2009. Now that he's back in his rightful spot in the backrow, I've heard he's been killing it. Hopefully he gets recognised in senior footy over the coming years. Would be great reward for a helluva player.
