gains/losses from each club, or is it too early to say?
most clubs are already being put through their paces for pre season from what i gather though

I am trying to think of which Easts players would of gone to Sydney and by Sydney I guess you mean Shute Shield?

What do you mean, aren't our players good enough? ;)

The players are Chris Cocca and Mitch Lewis - both to Manly.
Great blokes both on and off the field - quite a good pick up for the Marlins.

I am not going to sit here and support Vikings but what is the issue that everyone has with them? besides them building to be one of the most successful clubs in Australia? - all other clubs could of done the same/been in the same boat.

Some thoughts:
  • I certainly appreciate the point made concerning their ongoing success - their business model has been sustainable and has made them a very successful club. The sensible and pragmatic actions of their old boys in the 70's, 80's and 90's should be applauded.

Probably best asked in February, by then squads across the competition should be pretty close to sorted and Brumbies allocations should be done by then too.

Not sure on other clubs, but we've been training for a fortnight now. Completely optional however - the real stuff will start in the new year.

  • Aftermatch functions - I don't think I've ever been to one at Viking park where there were more than 10 Vikings players there. Soulless.
After Easts played at Vikings Park in 2013 only 1 Easts player showed up at the after match function, and that was Ryne Bowden who had played at Vikings the year before. Just about the entire first grade vikings team was there and a large chunk of Colts and lower grades.

Not that any Brumbies will be playing JID with the new NRC in place.........

  • They are incredibly arrogant and unsportsmanlike on and off the pitch - their players actions at the end of the grand final was pretty poor and indicative of their culture; Flipping the bird etc at the Royals supporters after winning certainly wasn't a great look. Wasn't actually surprised - thats how they've been ever since i've played (late 2000's)

God, what a load of rubbish........

To be honest, my mates and I don't bother with it anymore due to previous experience. Good for them if they've changed that aspect of it.

For example: I can remember watching the All Blacks v Ireland downstairs (zoo?) - it's a facility that should be respected and utilised - enjoyed seeing a few photos of an ex-coach (Josh Vaugn) up on the walls. But there weren't any Vikings players there aside from Mokatupu, who came and left within 20 mins.

Blinkers on again Mr ellipsis? - no idea if you're a player, coach, or a nostalgic old boy mate, but the grand final stuff was poor form. Unless of course you advocate that kind of 'sportsmanship'?

If it's in regards to the post match functions - great if it's changed, but as mentioned - the experiences haven't been great over the years from a personal point of view. Hard to get blokes to stick around if it's generally been a waste of time in the past.

+1 Empire.

You can't imagine the Royals boys carrying on like that in front of the Vikings fans if the result had been reversed.

Empire, if you're insistent on continuing down this path maybe it's time to create your own Vikings bashing thread?

The the rest of us in the civilised community can then return to discussing matters pertaining to rugby and the JID...........

  • Easts back in the day (according to a former president) helped Tuggeranong (and Queanbeyan, but thats another kettle of fish) get established. Didn't have to, but it was for the advancement of the code in the region. I don't think the same assistance was extended to us given how bad things had been between '09-'12.
  • They are incredibly arrogant and unsportsmanlike on and off the pitch - their players actions at the end of the grand final was pretty poor and indicative of their culture; Flipping the bird etc at the Royals supporters after winning certainly wasn't a great look. • Many in the community are wary of their influence over the Brumbies, especially in the past - dollars talk, and Vikings hold a lot of sway there.
  • Aftermatch functions - I don't think I've ever been to one at Viking park where there were more than 10 Vikings players there. Soulless.
  • Naturally, after winning the competition most years people are just sick and tired of the status quo. As Sydney Uni supporters have found, it's a byproduct of success.
Might stir the pot abit but do people think that some players would like to play for Vikings but are worried about not getting a 1st xv spot? So they go to a weaker club..

Inevitably, this will happen at a club that seemingly recruits a new 1st XV every other year :D

you are very keen to sink the boot in! are you a disgruntled former player? just trying to establish a reason for your forceful dislike!!

any word on when the Brumbies will be split up/allocated their JID teams?

Slim, as before you have blinkers. If you can't acknowledge that kind of behaviour, then I'd question your definition of civilised. Not really compatible with the ethos of the game.

No8, not a former Vikings bloke, just someone that's formed an opinion over multiple years. Some points are personal, others positively acknowledge what they have done well. They are a powerhouse, albeit a polarising one.

Moving on; 2014 depends a lot on:
The final layout of the NRC
What team will represent the ACT
How players are selected into that squad
Scheduling of the comp to accommodate the NRC

I'm also tipping Royals to go close. New coaching structures would be well and truly settled, younger players like Staniforth, Penders, Cusack and Seth Going will improve immensely, and hopefully we will see more of Benny Johnson and Cornforth. If they can retain the majority of the 2013 squad, they will be up there.

The way you are carrying on Empire you and your mates are probably not welcome at Vikings anymore, stick to positive posts about the JID and not criticism of other teams.

Glass houses buddy no one cares about your mood.
The Brums will definitely play JID when free of S15/Wallabies/NRC commitments
