Yep. Was blowing up at Australia's scrummaging vs Uruguay but sees no problem with Marler.

Not quite the case, not in that twitter conversation I linked to. The Telegraph tweets out a link to Moore's article; someone else says England wouldn't have had scrum dominance if Marler drove straight; Kaplan agrees; Moore then says no one refs the scrum properly. So it would seem he was in agreement, and not stuck with his head up his own fundamentals.

In short, both Kaplan and Moore seem to concur that Marler isn't driving straight in the scrum. And that the refs are knobs.

Carter over Horwill is bullshit. (and this is coming from a Brumbies supporter).

I can't understand Cheika's logic here. Maybe he's thinking of next year & after.
But, shit, I'd be using the best players I could. Especially when Carter has been out injured for a while.

Has carter actually been playing under his joker contract yet? If he has he probably isn't too underdone considering he played the USA game as well

Didn't find anything about the England scrums on the site, but Kaplan, Brian Moore and sundry others had an extended twitter conversation about Marler angling in over here.

EDIT: This gif was included in part of that tweeter convo.

I don't understand scrums at all.

When Australia do that, we get penalised for illegally wheeling the scrums.

When the opposition collapse, the scrum is reset because the footing is bad.

When we collapse, we are penalised for collapsing the scrum.

I just have NFI what the hell is happening and it really negatively affects the experience of watching the game tbh.

Scene: Referee's Dressing Room before Wallabies v England game.

Marius Mitrea (Assist Ref 1) to Romain Poite: "What area of the game are you going to police the most?"
Romain Poite (Referee): "Le Infringement a la scrum"
George Clancy (Assist Ref 2): "Ah, you mean penalising Marler for angling in"
Romain Poite (Referee): "Mon Dieu, non, mais pour Kepu for causing Marler to angle in"

If you watched Ireland play Canada, Ireland made a point of just holding every scrum in place instead of going for penalties, and using the scrum as a platform to work backline plays. It was an 80 minute drink of cool water.

When in doubt, and even when not in doubt.....

Suddenly some wisdom is being produced on this thread!!

Sometimes it's not a good thing to have a good memory, as I remember not so long ago, many of you who now want Horwill in the squad, were lambasting him, and saying he was no longer up to it, and should never wear the green and gold again! I disagreed at the time, as I'm a loyal fan of Big Kev.
I'll reserve further comment until after this match.

You don't need to watch spider cam to realize the English pack is walking sideways.........

I haven't seen players crab like that since Giteau 2011..........

Which is what scrums are meant to be.

Landed yesterday ahead of Saturday's clash (What up GAGR crew anyone about?), strolled to the ASIC store and had a chat to Squeak and the cohort. Good vibe from all and Skelton through this shoulder was good at the time!

Nice one Dan! Anyone but England mate. I can't believe there is a single non-English Rugby fan alive that would need encouraging to cheer the Poms over us!

On the Marler angling in video, I no expert that most on here are, but if your opposition tighthead moves to your inside shoulder as appears to be happening in that scrum, you have to follow him or your front row gets splintered.
