From the safety of his bunker in the southern highlands.I'm not making this up: at this very moment The Parrot is calling the whole coronavirus pandemic a hoax and is putting the boot into the various Australian governments' responses. Simply bloody appalling.
I only listened to about AJ for 20 minutes this morning doing the school run so didn't hear what you heard.I'm not making this up: at this very moment The Parrot is calling the whole coronavirus pandemic a hoax and is putting the boot into the various Australian governments' responses. No, that's not hypocritical at all. From the safety of his bunker in the southern highlands.
at least he’s consistent.
hypocrite
Well, we get to disagree, I have a greater trust in my fellow humans to make reasonable decisions most of the time without the requirement of force. So do we really need the threat of force to make good decisions in every day life?
No, that's not hypocritical at all.
His age and recent health problems put him right in the demographic that could catch Wuhan Flu easily and die from it.
He is advocating for all other Australians to be able to re-open their business, go to the footy, watch Opera, stand on the sidelines of the Under 7s rugby in the pouring rain as your grandson plays his first game, eat at restaurants, take the caravan to Cairns for the southern winter - I could go on but you get the drift.
Just because he has chosen to self isolate doesn't mean he can't have an opinion about the national response to this pandemic.
What you are saying is like demanding the entire Board of RA be made up of current players because only they have the knowledge to make the game work.
Maybe some people need pictures. He's literally telling his listeners, half of which are 65+ that the pandemic is essentially a hoax and there is nothing to worry about.
Meanwhile he is taking precautions against the pandemic he is calling a hoax because he is in the same high risk category as his listeners.
If you were trying to create a textbook example of hypocrisy it would be harder to come up with a better one.
That's great to hear WOB. I'm hoping our premiers can start opening things up further, given that the recent releases of restrictions haven't led to any significant outbreak. Plenty of people in WA tell our own premier that opening up the North of the state should happen sooner rather than later. It seems that the biggest threat to Australia is imported cases from overseas at the moment.
For the love of Christ, don't do this:
The problem with this logic is that the Pareto principle well and truly applies here (and possibly to a much larger degree). The Pareto principle suggests that 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. Depending on the study (and I note they are only in preprint stage) suggests that potentially even less than 20% of the cases are responsible for 80% of the infections.
Most people doing the right thing doesn't necessarily give us nearly the outcome we need because a small percentage cause the bulk of the damage.
The most costly thing that could happen for us now is a second wave hitting before businesses etc. have had some time to recover.
Interesting that whereas Jacinda seems to be saying that all Australian states would have to reopen their borders to each other before trans-Tasman flights resume, ScoMo is being reported as having said that there could be flights from say NSW if their border is opened, but not from Queensland if their's remains closed. Strikes me as a little odd, that, but not as odd as the new Leader of the Opposition declaring that after Australia the next country we simply must resume travel to & from is... China!

It's just about politics at this point, isn't it? Our northern towns risk missing out on their entire tourist season because of these regional borders and our southern regions are at this stage totally dependent on Perth for their business, but as long as Mark McGowan gets to give New South Wales a serve .
It was reported in the West last week that WA Labor thinks it can capitalise on McGowan's personal popularity and pick up even more seats at next year's election, up from the high watermark they got in 2017. Meanwhile, virtually every letter to the paper that's about the state government's response is basically critical of what they're doing right now. I expect he'll be re-elected, but he's dreaming if he thinks he'll still be Mr 89% next March.
I did hear him say (paraphrasing) that we've done our bit in lockdown and now its time for governments to treat us as adults by totally reopening the country and let individuals make their own decisions about sheltering or re-engaging in all of society's offerings. I agree with that position.
