Is this a particularly young Australian Team?

It looks like there are 15 U19 boys (including 2 U18) out of a squad of 28.

Good to see the Aus 20s v Barbarians becoming a regular finishing school match prior to getting boarding pass for JWC.
I Have seen a few boys of late who have just come thru 20s or are indeed still in 20s group making cameo appearances (smart blooding) or full match run on roles (too much responsibility in some cases).
The apprentices are going to relish the fact that "maturing" wallabies can go overseas and top up their piggy bank much earlier than before this year.
It will lead to in a lot of cases player movements from franchise to franchise and thus providing opportunity for younger brigade at say 21-22 years old which in my opinion is about right.
That opportunity has been harder to grab without the overseas wallaby player rule change.
The current crop of 20s is not a bad bunch of grapes lets see if chief winemaker can get 2015 to be a decent vintage.

Who else would play? They're not going to fly players from QLD, VIC, WA.
Are they grade players. Colts. Who? Norths and Souths 1st grade SS sides couldn't handle them in a trial, so is this baa baa side the best of the SS grade sides? Someone's 'prime minister's XV or captain's pick? Just wondering what the story is? Surely someone on this forum knows! Big Jarse, any ideas?

They had this match last year and it was the same thing. Best of the Shute Shield (although not really the best). I think they try to give each club decent representation hence Penrith getting 3 players.

I s'pose it's a confidence tune up.

How good is this "Shute Shield" comp really - when their, let's say, 3rd fifteen gets smashed by the team of kids? ;)

It's the old lack of depth in Aussie rugby story.

kiap this game is played on Tuesday, the Shute Shield players have just come off Saturday matches. I'm pretty sure their first training session is on match day.

Mate, nothing against the arrangements or even the SS. It's probably the best they can do to give the young'uns a hit out.

A trial like this just isn't going to be a prority with clubs naturally wanting to keep their paid players injury-free for their real games.

The Brumbies have the bye next week and their backup squadies watching the Supe on TV for a couple weeks could possibly have been involved. But there's just not a lot of incentive for all involved for it to happen.

I heard second hand that Jr Morgan who was in the U20 Barbarian side got a call up for this match. can't be sure of which side he has been selected for though. may have been called into the Aussie side or may have been selected to play them...he has also made the cut for NRC side squad.

Caught the tail-end of an interview on ABC Grandstand last Saturday, driving home from work. Not sure of the ABC commentator's name - but she was interviewing Coach Thompson.
IIRC correctly, he commented that he had had some input into the BaaBaa's team - and that he had a few of last year's squad - including Tom Staniforth (now with Brumbies) - plus possibly some fringe players who missed out on the final squad.
As alluded to by HJ above, one might expect that those SS players who play on Tuesday night will be those that can obtain a "leave pass" from their respective Clubs - or who don't have to work !

There will be at least 3 Canberra boys in the team, including 1 that has a super rugby contract...
