Show and go

Some of the waves boys played for Randwick and didn't make it through and Moretti and Murphy wouldn't compete with the Sydney forwards. Towns might be up to par in the backs. Might be. Scolari from Joeys would be up with the Sydney forward and the post from #269 are the only other kids that I believe could match the players from Sydney.
I stand corrected but I don't believe moretti and Murphy played at mudgee and didn't play for rand wick this year both very talented boys who played in the aus national league championships recently along with towns, I'm sure these boys will be leading the line for waves in the future and gain rep honours.

Who are the best gps u15s this year? As it was good to see the Sydney team made up from various different schools and not just a select few schools.

No 11 from mnz was the standout of the tournament can kick and got pace to burn, exciting player.

Interesting not to unlike the older age groups over the years in terms of ratios. Especially opens or under 18s. Interesting those that question the strength of the GPS system.

No comment from all the diehard club vs school association supporters?? Interesting. Plenty of quality that didn't play at mudgee

Congratulations to the boys selected into the Sydney U15's I'm sure they can get the job done against Country. Awesome to see one of our MSZ boys selected. Well done Kyle. Based on that tournament I think Icanovski #3 and Koopu # 8 would have threatened selection into the Sydney team and of course Charlie Davis when he is fit and healthy. All three are definately not out of place in this company. The boys just have to continue to play hard and learn more about this beautiful game. There is always next year. I know for sure that the country boys will be relieved they don't have to tackle Icanovski and Koopu any time soon.

Any reports or scores from Sydney vs Country in Under 18 and Under 17's yesterday?

Busy time coming up for those boys in the SJRU Rep programme, esp U17 & U18's:
Sydney JRU U17 & U18 vs Bishop Stortford High School 19 July
Sydney JRU U17 vs Wellingborough 1st XV 24 July
Sydney JRU U16, U17 & U18 vs Leeds Grammar on 2 August

Much busier than previous years, and well done to the SJRU for landing the incoming tour games.
Does anyone know the times & venues for these games?

Does anyone know the times & venues for these games?

Sydney U17's to play Bishop's Stortford 2nd XV at 2.00pm on Sunday at Rawson Oval, Mosman. Sydney U18's to play 1st XV at 3.15pm same venue.

Wellingborough 1st XV to play Sydney U17's at 7.30pm, Boronia Park, Hunters Hill on Friday 24th July.

Leeds Grammar pulled the plug on the Sydney and NSW Country fixtures as apparently they got a better offer!!! Sydney U17's are now having a rematch with NSW Country and Sydney U18's trying to organize a fixture against Gordon U19's. Both for Aug 2nd.

NSW Juniors will be naming an U16 NSW Presidents Development XV on Friday. This team will contest a two game series against a Bowral Academy side at the City v Country Carnival and again at the NSW Invitational.

With the collapse of the Illawarra U16's competition the Bowral side have been left with no teams to play despite still having a full team ready and willing. They will fill the bye spot in the SJRU U16A comp where applicable but this series will give the side a purpose for the rest of the season and help promote and develop rugby in the highlands.

The Presidents Development XV is not purely a Rep side (as Bowral is essentially a club side and could not compete against a pure Rep team). It will be made up of 9 or 10 players straight out of SJRU U16B club rugby and the remaining players made up from those that competed at the Regionals for Zone or Country sides.

Got to give credit where it is due and that is good progressive thinking coming out of NSW JRU.

Plenty of kids from SJRU 16B competition go on to bigger and better things in Colts (and in Schools rep footy) and beyond. Good to see them getting some development action thrown their way. It's not all about the Rock Stars and Child Protegees. Lots of those end up on the Dark Side chasing coin in the Car Makers Cup.

Totally agree hugh Jarse

Last year there was a western Sydney development side that entered which was made up of the boys from western zone that didn't get picked and they BEAT Sydney in the tournament.

It goes to show some years there is plenty more boys capable.

Unfortunately this year I don't believe the same strength is there but good luck to the boys and hopefully they do well.

Saw first half of sydney under 17s ... Those kids can play. Although hardly kids, one kid had a full/onbeard that most 21 year olds would struggle to grow.

Either way the skills on show were awesome. Wasn't just flashy blacks, forwards had great skills.

Presumably these kids have been rep players for years ... Haven't previously seen this age group.

The uk team was taking a thumping, but I will say they were courageous. And nice try against run of play.

And hard playing in your pyjamas ... As there looked like they were

Scores and/or match observations?
i cannot remember the 17's score but something like 30 -12 would be close. Sydney was all over them in the first half with strong forward play and then the backs using quick hands and in some cases blinding speed to break through and score. It was quickly 20 nil, the visitors swooped on a dropped ball and raced 50 meters to score. The second half was directed by the referee as he tried to balance the game up, while this frustrated the Sydney supporters and players it resulted in a good tussle in the half.
In the 18's the visitors were a different side, bigger, faster, stronger. always hard to tell but i would say they would be a good GPS 2nds side.
sydney knew they were in a game from the kick off, with the Sydney No8 being smashed in a ball and all tackle off the kick off, from the dropped ball the visitors went wide through the backs, after a second phase they came back the other way. With Sydney having very good scramble defence, from the loose forwards to keep them at bay. Sydney settled down to put together some excellent forward play, with strong pick and go to build a platform for the backs. That would be how the rest of the match would play out, Sydney being strong in the forwards and playing for each other in defence and the visitor trying to stretch Sydney out wide. A very enjoyable match with Sydney running out winners 20 - 5 (I think) 4 tries to one.

"2. All three registered with a local Southern Districts club side.
3. All three have committed to playing for that club side after their return from Glengarry."

from Tractor post #202

With Round 10 done and dusted not one of these boys have played a club game yet and one of them is no longer on the club team sheet!

So basically the above was just a crock of shit and SJRU allow this to happen to maintain and strengthen the flailing SC.

That is what rugby is all about promoting the individual over the team! Great rugby lessons taught here by the two bodies involved.

What a surprise that is.
Given the way selections turned out it is not at all surprising that 2 have flown the coop: they would only have needed to keep playing if they got picked in higher teams.
Where is Gary Owen III to defend this?
