Super Rugby Rnd 7: Rebels v Reds

Have no clue why either of them haven’t been tried off the bench. It was laughable last game with three halfbacks on the field at once. This isn’t suburban rugby

It was a strange site but lets put it into perspective Anderson rolled his ankle & lomani was on the bench as a wing replacement & when the score was 33-0 & marika got cramp. Get him off & make everyone else roll their sleeves up for 8 min. Yeah it cost us 2 tries & a bonus point but i'd rather that than our best player be at risk get injured & miss games.

But the fact with 3 backs on the bench we carry two reserve halfbacks is what I find odd

I 100% agree but Wessels has used Lomani purely as winger just like the brumbies have used fines at 23, difference is they have Wright Muirhead Hansen then fines we have Marika ................... daylight ................. Anderson ...................... lomani/any of the others I mentioned.

If DHP or Magney were fit our backline looks a lot stronger but we cant change it have to cop the hits & keep fighting.

BTW Isi has been 1 week off for a month now & got named in the 40 players of national interest, anyone have any idea what is going on with him?

I still don't get why Hodge isn't playing 15. He'd be a shoe in for Wallabies 15 if he regularly played 15. And Melbourne can more easily replace a center than a fullback/winger.

I agree he should be our 15. Think he ends up in the midfield due to a lack of depth. I suspect if Skeleton does well when presented with his opportunity and DHP is on the way out you will see him play 15 next year

Carter Gordon?

I would have loved him in the 22 jersey from week 1 but Wessels was coaching to keep his job this year to be honest so I dont think he really wanted to throw in a 20yo rookie in the halfs if he didnt have to knowing how important the start of season was. If we upset the reds this week & gives us some air from the force hopefully he can get some mins v the brumbies/force/tahs

Can we have him back if the Rebels aren’t playing him.

Do you think he was anymore likely to get game time with the Reds this year though?

Don't get me wrong I'm dirty AF that he went to the Rebels perfect player to replace JOC (James O'Connor) with when the time comes as he wouldn't be too green when that time comes. I feel the next Jnr maybe the Lynagh boy will need to be thrown to the wolves a little earlier in his progression.

That’s the hard thing with super rugby we are 7 weeks in and there is no other rugby available to be played. Makes it hard bringing players in when there is no exposed form

Didn’t he leave because there was a guarantee in his contract with game time. Otherwise he probably would have stayed. Yeah I think Thorn would have played him from the bench by now. He was playing some bloody good footy in Prems.

Can’t see the rebels having it in his contract he is guaranteed game time. I am bloody frustrated that we haven’t played him ultimately what happens now if To'omua gets injured? We will be forced to throw him in at the deep end. For the life of me I don’t know why we ran two 9s on the bench against the Tahs when we could of given Gordon 20/30 minutes

If they do have that stipulation then you would imagine the Rebels Vs Tahs game would be the best chance to give him some game time without the pressure of needing to win for a finals birth, provided they can beat the Force obviously.

Hodge plays 10 like against the Tahs, not the long term plan but will do for now rather than a bloke who has never played before

No we don’t want to get too cute in that game. We could go in with a development mindset and risk losing or we could potentially hand them a winless season

Firstly, There is no way the Rebels could play worse then the Tahs. Secondly Gordon is an absolute gun and if you guys don't want him give me back right now. - Picone of course

Yeah we have a history of shitting the bed. We made Jack Deb look like Dan Carter one night in the final round and I think we only needed a losing bonus point for finals.

I would have been picking him off the bench for the last few weeks that way you could give him a start against the Tahs. I am just unsure about starting him in his first game as we have nothing to lose

Who plays 12 then. We should have given Gordon minutes off the bench by now

Illy did v the tahs
Holland or skeleton prob this week if To'omua is off the park which I highly doubt he will be.

They only game that you would risk a 1st gamer at 10 would have been the Tahs. We had an incredibly difficult start to the season & we were within a scum from being 0-3. Carter hopefully is our 10 long term but we dont want to bring him off the bench for 6 min on a wing or at 13.

If we win this week we go 8 points clear of the force with 2 home games left & the away game against the tahs. If SRTT goes ahead we are only currently 1/3 into our season lets be honest we are prob going to struggle against the guys from across the ditch so 15 min at the end of those games might be ideal as well

Mate I hate that mindset we have nothing to fear from the NZs sides. We beat the highlanders away in our only start against a kiwi side last year. While I don’t expect us to start favourites the notion that the games will be over with 15 to go is ridiculous. I would expect us to win at least 2 games against the kiwi sides. The Chiefs, Highlanders and Canes are all just going
