Newington V Shore at the Brick pit.
Nothing can be more intimidating than playing a rampant Newington, hell bent on finishing the season well in front of the faithful. Last weekend the wild wookies went up another gear just like cousin Afah’s fully sick car as they ran over the meandering cattle of Parramatta. It was predicted (as nauseum) by the Newington faithful pre-season that this was the year, it was going to click, but alas some early results did not go their way. The loss to the cattle dogs in the muster yard exposed some frailty out wide as the wingers seemed to be caught looking more at hand mirrors and not the opposition wingers. The destructive force of the Wookie forwards unfortunately wanes like recent Bruce Willis movies, all action early on and then with 15 minutes to go, the pace slows dramatically and they go to sleep. Smaller, fitter forwards exploit such physical conditioning and this weekend they will need to run all game.
Coming to the brick pit will be the rejuvenated Shoremen. Fresh from a win over “Frankie’s boys” (Catholics get this) the Shore boys will be filled with something not enjoyed for many seasons…. hope! A win, yes, a precious win was recorded at the wind-swept fields of Stirling bridge. Nothing makes a young man feel 10 foot tall and bullet proof than a victory against the odds (some will argue that a surprise kiss from a blue-eyed blonde has the same effect) I enjoyed watching Shore back themselves in this game and I feel that they have had a taste of winning and they want more. Just like enjoying your first cup of Kopi Luwak, you will never go back to drinking Nespresso. This weekend will see a clash of a Tongan locomotive that has finally reached top speed against a team that wants to shock the world again. Can lightning strike twice? In my heart I would like to say it could, but I feel the wookies will run roughshod over the brave shoremen despite what the cosmos thinks.

The Kings School v Scots College at Dunstanburgh Castle
Heavily favored last week by the green and gold tipping community, Kings failed to rise to the occasion just like my wife’s Soufflé au poulet last Sunday lunch. When they do rise, the sight and smells are quite intoxicating, when they fail, there is a collective disappointment. The cattlemen of Parramatta seemed to find traveling difficult but I will cut them slack as they were playing the resurgent Wookies in their favorite sand box. This weekend they are at home again on the manicured pasture lands of White Oval. Here they will have more chance to wield the sword and cloak of privilege and smite the Scottish interlopers who dare cross the Sydney plains to reach their barren outpost. Kings will do what they do best, play a conservative game just like Great, great, great Uncle Lord Wellington did to that French chappy. It been this sense of improvisation that has seen them escape from sticky situations (like the Shore result) and they hope the Houdini act continues.
Scots though will not be in the mood for magic shows. Last weekend the smaller cattle dogs again showed their Soviet style athletes that a champion team will always beat a team of cyborgs. From my view in the grandstand the Scots team looked in control but it was unusual to see them in the final minutes start to panic with fancy plays and a lack of support at the breakdown that saw the smaller cattle dogs turn over the ball. The fire power for Scots lays in the 12, 13 and 15 and they showed that if give space they will be deadly. The wider paddock this weekend will suit them, plus it will be firmer under foot and not the skating rink as the Death Star can be. With a solid scrum, a dominate line out thief and a back line that fires like a howitzer and not a pop gun, I can see the skirt wearers winning easily. Kings will hold their ground just like Poland did, but they will be ultimately crushed by the blitzkrieg that is coming for them.

The move to a suburban cathedral of rugby league has been prompted by the inability and failure of Riverview to control their ground and old boy supporters.
A simple and very sad fact.
I believe that this is such a shame for the Riverview Year 12 who will be robbed of their rightful place and location to get as a wild and woolly one final time. Moving the game will also be no advantage to either school. Riverview play best when at home and rightfully so, God told them in a vision during morning vespers. They have some of the most passionate supporters in the GPS, a parking lot that would not be out of place in a Double Bay showroom, the very tasty BBQ and the lunatic wolf pack of lads supporting them. There are huge banners, long tunnels, crazy cheers and drums galore which adds to the occasion and pumps up the home team. The real beneficiaries of this match will be kids from Orange Grove Public School who will make out like bandits stealing hubcaps and hood ornaments.
Joeys though can travel anywhere, on mass, and the blue army will be there as usual. Last weekend their cheers bounced off the mansions in Bellevue and reminded the locals who was in town. The Joeys advantage has always been the 16th men who support them week in and week out. They have not had a “quiet game” since 2010 when the College made the game at Scots voluntary due to poor weather. Scots won easily and this never happened never again. Their 16th men’s worth was truly demonstrated in 2018 as they continued to cheer when all seemed lost against Scots at the Death Star and View at The Swamp…..and we know the rest. This weekend, Joeys are all fit and healthy. Niggles have been quietened, bad food been served to anger them up, a ruthless streak instilled and the emphasis is “getting it done” being chanted during early morning joega sessions. Riverview will do well to try to upset Joeys rosary bead like rhythm but the cerise and blue are now two games away from a championship and they smell blood on the grass. A ruthless pack of cattle dogs is hard to stop and I know the wolf pack will try to do their best. An intriguing event and one that I hope is never repeated. Keep the rugby in the schools. I miss the BBQ’s.

Whilst I assume the View boys would prefer the game to be at home, I don't think it's as poor of a decision by Riverview management as you may think. Views "Mud Pit" ( however fields are looking luscious at the moment) as it is called, simply cannot manage checking for alcohol for 12 old boys reunions (6 from each school, up to 2400 drunk lads). Furthermore, we know that fights can occur.... because they have! This can just be managed better at a stadium with trained staff and easier police access; might not stop a biff on the field itself though! Finally, while the weather has been better the last few days, I think we would all prefer the higher quality of rugby that comes with a professionally maintained ground, and I assume Riverview wasn't wanting to risk putting the player on a field that was muddy/uneven, and risk more injuries for the players.

Max Jorgensen will add some speed out wide for the team allowing players along the likes of Shaquai Mitchell and Matt Babbage to shine which I’m sure Matt will enjoy considering many girls are coming to watch him I’ve heard!!

I just finished a fine morning tea at balmoral this morning and I believe this young man, Ginga Wilson had come up, from what I've head he is a dominant ball runner who loves a breakdown and is not afraid to get his hand dirty!! with his biggest strength being his high balls that he had been working on in his seconds game against kings and riverview.
Should be interesting to see how he fits in the line up.

Looks lush because if they took a mower on them they wouldn't get it out. They also have the hill roped off because of the state of it. They need to do something about it.
As for the supposed crowd issue. A simple fence like every other school in the country might help.

If that was the case then most schools would take their games off site. In the AAGPS there is only one, professionally maintained rugby ground. That is Joeys. Kings and Shore have well maintained cricket ovals with an occasional hard centre square. Newington is a rugby only field but does get boggy after repeated play and Scots and Riverview suffer from the worst drainage of all. If your school can build majestic castles to learning then a few dollars to fix a ground would work wonders. In the past, the mud runners of View had an advantage, a slip and slide boys of Bellevue as well as both schools KNEW HOW TO PLAY THEIR GROUND. At Shore, you know which way the wind blows and what end to run first half, Newington has a simliar advantage. Joeys has an even, Cinderella top (not to firm and not too soft) but even still, knowing the sunshine and the southerly helps.
I do heartily agree though with Old Boy reunions. Trying to police at Riverview would be a massive cost.

Don't think a little fence is stopping 2400 drunk men sneaking alcohol into the premises, nor would it stop any disputes, but appreciate your sarcasm nonetheless. As for the grounds, I think you have a fair argument, perhaps a bit more drainage would go to good use.

In the 3rd XV for Shore this weekend we have some standout players like Hugh Crookes and Corey Cone who will be damaging against the Grammar boys. There has also been a bit of change in this team I believe with Jesse Dixon #9 being dropped due to inconsistent passes however Lachie Kennard Clift coming in to play #9.

Ginga what I have heard will be slotting into the side on the wing with hopes that he will catch those said high balls and run with them, his kicking game is distinctly average however man he can run, shall be quite interesting.
If I were on the Newington side tonight I would be counting my lucky stars this will be intense!!!

Lots of people start playing Rugby in year 7 or 8 when they come to CAS or GPS schools but it is true that I reckon over 80% of people have played club before they start playing at CAS or GPS school.

No sarcasm in it mate. I think a fence around the school would make a huge difference. Look at the fence around Joeys, Kings, Shore... If you have access points you can centralise the security. Anyone can just walk into Riverview regardless of the wonderful gates at the front... which is most of the issue with the Old Boys.
Can't control what they do before hand, sure but you can make it safer. If they want to come by boat, good luck to them.
