Rebels 2023

I don’t think the ‘on paper’ team list for the Rebels has ever been the issue.
People always say this about the Rebels, but if anyone can show me an extremely good roster they have ever had I am all ears.

I grant people the year they had Quade and Genia, it was pretty good but by in large they have had players that couldn’t make the squad of Tahs, Brums, Reds, or young guys not prepared to sit behind others for a few years and want to start earning money asap or old names well past their best.

All of Philip, Hosea, Hardwick, Uelese, Orr, Fa'amausili, Kemeny and possibly Canham and Ioane are unsigned at this stage and they're likely to lose at least a few of them.

Still probably a strong pack if they're all fit, but not at the level it looks there.
Agreed. Would be surprised if Philip, Uelese and Fa’amasuili are there next year.

The 2018 and 2019 squads should have played finals with the talent that we had on the books following the dropping of the Force, and the combination of not doing so while struggling to onboard younger talent set us back almost as much as Totalitarian Tony did.

I would hope that priority is given to keeping our local boys involved in the system, but, particularly with the added bonus that we're going to be worked over with the BILs, I wouldn't begrudge anyone taking up an overseas contract or seeking a more secure starters spot at another franchise.

Rebels need to get on the front foot and try bring Tuipulotu back from the Tahs next year. Article out tonight saying Scotland offering him 3x current contract to move. Surely the Rebs would be able to offer a solid upgrade and guaranteed starting spot to lure him over.

Just don’t think he is interested in Melbourne

Maybe things have changed since COVID, but £125k doesn't sound like a significant investment to me. Not that it's not in the individual sense for the player, but my last recollection is that when you removed the big SRU contracts and the promoted academy players the average salary for Edinburgh/Glasgow was meant to be around £135k-£150k for your typical senior squad member.

Well, looks like we could be without Hodge for a while (season?). Big loss of leadership - hope Kels is not far off returning.
