Bledisloe #4 New Zealand vs Australia Nov 7 2020

So you'd go back to the same backrow as Bled 1. Not sure Rennie will roundabout back to that, it was clearly missing something he wanted, he's more likely to keep trying out different combinations.
Fair point - Maybe nassirini (sorry forget how spelt) at 8

I might be the only one, but I like the change with Swinton. I still think he is the 6 who best fits the physical profile of the player we need there. Whether he can get the mental side of his game in terms of discipline and workrate off the ball is the question - but i think it would be a reasonable selection.

I’d like to see Hosea get a crack - but I guess Rennie doesn’t think he’s ready and given the blow back that Lolesio & Simone got after their first test I think that it’s probably a good thing in the long run. Hosea looks like he’ll get there soon enough.

He fills the role. Hope he can keep his head and be accurate.
Not sure I’d be comfortable with Hanigan as the bench lock. If we lose Philip or Simmons early it could make for a long day at the office. Hopefully Hosea or Neville come on to the bench.

To be fair on this, neither is Liam Wright who is BRs preferred 7 - although I am not advocating to drop Hooper.

Thank you TSR. Contrary to popular opinion I do not only or even mainly advocate for Brumbies players. In test match considerations they are all Wallabies or potential Wallabies no matter which Super Rugby team they play for. It is likely at the moment that most of the players being discussed do come from either the Brumbies or the Reds because they are the outstanding teams in the country. Much to the chagrin of the many fans who only see through light blue eyes but following an also ran is the cross they have to bear.

His time will come. After a very impressive super rugby campaign he didn’t do himself any favours a few weeks back. I’m sure we will see him in the next month or so, as a 6.
I would guess that the challenge for Hoopers spot will come from McReight first.

JB my concern is that until an effective jumping No 6 or 8 comes along, the backrow balance will still be out of kilter with Fraser in 7. Hence my call for Liam at 7 right now.

Yes. I am a huge fan of Wright. He was sensational throughout SRAU, and a leader to boot. He just looked a little out of his depth in Bled 2. He will get another shot soon but realistically he is 3rd in line at 7 in this squad and there is probably one or two other sevens not in the squad who could also challenge.
His best bet is to shoot for 6 and beef up a little. He plays more like a 6 than 7 and fills that role for Qld. Future Wallaby captain materiel for sure.

True. But Wright is not a Waratah which I think is BRs real gripe

I am a fan of Maddocks at 15, and for a while I was a voice in the wilderness supporting Jack. I also have a lot of respect for HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) and expect him to come into Test considerations. I am not anti Tahs per se, especially since KB (Kurtley Beale) left, but there are few other Tahs who are good enough and have the form to warrant Wallaby selection.

Ah, so we're judging Steve Tandy on his 2020 Scotland performance, rather than his 2019 Waratahs performance? I seem to recall we weren't a defensive juggernaut on our way to a 12th place finish.

In reality judging specialist coaches from afar is a mug's game. Sure you can make some wider observations but it's hard to actually know who is good and who is lucky.

It's definitely not luck. Scotland conceded fewer points in this year's 6N than any other side has in the past five seasons.

Since 2000, Scotland have conceded an average of 124 points per Six Nations campaign. Only once, in 2006, have they conceded less than 100. Last season they conceded 128, the season before that 126.

This season they only conceded 59 points, the best defensive record of any team in the Six Nations. Even more remarkable when you consider the winner of the 6N tends to concede an average of about 70.

You seem to be missing the point that you're arguing that Tandy should have been hired in 2020 to be the defensive coach of the Wallabies on the back his performance with Scotland in 2020 (i.e. after he was no longer available to the Wallabies) vs his performance with the Waratahs in 2019.

Maybe he's Welsh and was keen to return to the UK when an international coaching opportunity came up?

AB's team named and overall it's a bit meh for mine. Guess they're well and truly trying to give everyone a run like it's an U8's match instead of a test match.
