I know that Glengarry limits the pool of players for Scots however Scots elected uncontested scrums from the get go (this is A grade) and Joeys played the Mercy rule dropping to 12 players by the end of the match. They also gave a number of lower grade boys a go and experimented with a number of A players in new positions. The match also finished quite early as one poor Scots boy suffered a bad leg injury.

If Joeys didn't self impose the mercy rule, allow Scots to maintain 15 players even though Scots elected to go uncontested before kickoff and treat this like a training run / trial the score would have been 100+.... I don't see how that is a good experience for anyone.

Been told that some of the boys who are forwards lost a heap of weight and conditioning while at Glengarry combined with little training and no trials. The Scots A team apparently had no subs as all the lower grade boys refused to step up for multitude of reasons. I cant see it getting any better for the last 2 games. I think The Scots B's (basically Ds, Es and Fs) played Joey's Es on Saturday - may have been a more appropriate game.

Last weekend there was some movement on the board as a few really enjoyed that 10 point reward for picking the correct margin. Even yours truly managed to fluke a result with Shore v View.

This weekend same rules apply.

Great game, Shore 10's kicking game was unstoppable again with a 40m field goal before halftime to go up by 3. Shore captain Jackson stiel was a standout again scoring 2 tries and having 1 disallowed. Shore 15's speed was too much for view defence at times.

1st Half
The game was back and forth with shore scoring first through number 1 of a nice short ball. 7-0 Shore

View hit back with a half the field effort finished off by number 11 where he did great work not to step out. 7-7

Shore number 15 scored the next try skipping on the outside of 2 defenders to roll over in a great individual effort. 12-7 Shore

View number 18 with fresh legs scored a nice hit and spin try through some soft defence. 12-12

On half time Shore number 10 slotted a beautiful drop goal from 40m out to put shore up 3 at half time

Halftime Shore 15 - View 12

2nd half
Shore attacked the blindside with a great run from number 11 to get them in a good position. Number 1 burrowed over from a pick and go. Very strong player. 22-12

Another sweet blindside play saw number 12 make a break and put a perfectly weighted kick for number 15 to chase and grab his 2nd of the afternoon. 29-12

A strong run from view number 12 somehow found his way to the line through a sea of dark blue jerseys to bring view back into the game. 29-17 Shore
Off a nice set play from a scrum View number 12 puts View number 13 through a nice hole to stroll over the line. 29-22 Shore

Shore get a penalty goal from 38m out with a nice strike from shore number 9 who was great on the boot all day. 32-22 Shore

Quick tap from View number 10 gets good metres for eventually a great run breaking some tackles before a hit and spin the crash over. View number 12 grabs the ball and takes a quick drop goal conversion. 32-29 Shore

Shore had a scrum in the last minute where number 15 kicked the ball dead. View number 10 ran to the 22 and attempted a short drop out where he was tackled and lost the ball.

Shore kicked the ball out and the celebrations and field raid began from all the old boys and students celebrating Shores first 1st XV win in 6 years.

Final Shore 32 - View 29

Great overall game of footy. Shore were fired up to bounce back off a disappointing loss last week.

And with the a outdoor campus planned to start in 2024 for Newington. We can expect the same issues to emerge within Newington Rugby. I think Michael Parker, is a great Headmaster, but I don't think the outdoor campus a is a great decision. It's impact on sport at Stanmore, will be detrimental to our capacity to fulfil our GPS commitments, particular Rugby. As it stands we field only 4 teams in the 15s and three in the 16s.

As for outdoor education, all the skills and experiences can be performed, by a well run Cadet Corps, during the Holidays or in the last week of term. That is my experience of outdoor education and it worked well my for year group. So from an educational viewpoint, all Newington and I will include Scots, are doing is reinventing the wheel. Meanwhile our Rugby at 15s, in particular will suffer. Further, other schools will find Newington and Scots, less attractive to play against, because of the absence of competitive teams.

The money would have been better spent on increasing boarding facilities, so New boys don't have to travel far,before and after school. Thereby, improving their capacity to study within the confines of an academic environment,related to their school work.

I heard the #11 from Joeys (Ben Whyte) signed with the tigers on a respectable deal. I also believe Jack Barret is playing for the lightning ridge tigers from 2023 onwards. Another couple gone to league.

Wondering if those at Joeys v Scots noticed how narrow the number field was. Have been informed and checked it myself while I was there that the field was at least 4 metres narrower than it has been all year.
Not sure who that favoured but with Max Jorgensen not playing it may have been the wrong decision.

After three games and a disappointing but deserving loss to Shore, Riverview seem to be playing a fair bit below the typical standard we've seen set in the past decade. Watching the game on clutch the sub-par service from View #9 put view behind the 8 ball early on, contributing to the ignatius forward pack losing the contact battle to the Shore. We rarely see a Shore side win a physicality battle but based off what I can see on the clutch Shore were able to march down field in a quick fashion. However, I will credit the Riverview kicking game from #15 relieved them from pressure throughout the match. It is with this vanilla brand of footy being played by Riverview I fear their results for the remainder of the season. Despite the atmosphere and spirit that is seen in the Joeys/View clash I question whether it will be enough to make the game a genuine contest. I sense that an inform strong Joeys side is going to dominate a disappointing/weak View side making the game at Leichhardt a one-sided affair.

It makes me think whether it's a culture change or whether the grade 12s have not been developed into a strong group.
