So play more games there - cut a deal so the QRU don't get money to refurbish the facility.

More usage = no revenue

rinse repeat

No wonder rugby just keeps shooting itself in the foot with thinking like this.
To say rugby keeps shooting itself in the foot is actually contrary to the intent of the conversation.

"if you always do what you always did, then you will always get what you always got"

If you want to shoot down any new / different / innovative idea then I would suggest you sir are part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

it wasnt meant to be one side takes all.
It is about sharing the spoils.

The clubs give a little for the greater good or, like in the past, the hierarchy rape them by hitting exorbitant fees / registrations etc.

A deal that was done successfully on the Darling Downs was the club gets the gate covercharge / ticket @ $5 a head (which they provided volunteers to man the gate) then the DDRU got the food and drink sales.

Of course the clubs can also run a merchandise stand and so can the QRU.
Have you worked at any of the clubs in Brisbane?

They aren’t exactly in a financial position to be giving up match-day income ‘spoils’ just to maintain a stadium at Ballymore because people like the romance and nostalgia of the idea.

Fact is Ballymore needs to find revenue streams outside of hosting crowds. It needs to commercialise some of the space for regular recurring revenue, and market itself to other sports and events.

That’s how Ballymore will survive, not by making clubs give up their own matchday income.

Forcing club games to Ballymore and reducing club revenue isn’t innovative by sharing the ‘spoils’, it’s robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Interesting to note that 2 players not considered worthy as juniors are now playing Test Match rugby for Japan.

Ben Gunter and Jack Cornelson

Both out of Brisbane as schoolboys.

I think there might be more of this to come in the future.

Ben Gunter missed out behind Reece Hewat, Lachie Swinton, Angus Scott-Young and Angus Allen in the backrow of the 2017 side. He's clearly gone on to have a better career than several of those players but was he a better option at the time?

Jack Cornelson missed out to Jack Dempsey and Sean McMahon in the 6/8 options in the 2014 side. Hard to argue even in hindsight that Australia made a mistake there.

Losing these guys permanently who become good professional players hurts and shows off the limited professional opportunities available here. I don't think it shows anything more though. It certainly doesn't indicate that we made an error in who we selected at the time.

giving free use to Ballymore is exactly what has happened in the past. It's a big reason why we are in the position are in.

Ben Gunter left well before 2017, he left straight after school in 2015. Was in Reds academy at the time.

I guess my point doesn't really change though.

I don't remember anyone claiming at the time that he was a huge loss and the Reds (or another Australian team) should have thrown a huge contract his way to keep him here.

It's good that he's gone on to have a really good career.

The issue is overwhelmingly that we produce more good players than we have good professional opportunities for rather than us not being very good at identifying talent.

In many ways it's a credit to Gunter, Cornelson, Riley and other Australian players who have gone to Japan early in their career for taking that punt.

My point was he wasn’t overlooked as originally suggested, he was in the academy setup and would have been considered for U20s but he left because he wasn’t offered a full time straight out of school.

Excellent point and that's just what the plan is - the planning approvals allow new medical and sport facilities. http://www.yourneighbourhood.com.au/ballymore-redevelopment-masterplan-approved/
Still, it'd be nice to see some of the itinerant cubbies clubs play there - Brisbane Irish or the Hustlers, for instance.

Why not?

says right there he is an academy player. That’s good enough for me that he factors into the mix.
was wondering if there was an injury or some other reason to make an addition.

He along with about 30 other young blokes are all potentially "in the mix" but not there

The boys have arrived on the Sunshine Coast from Longreach. Reports of the team gelling sound promising. Titi Nofoagatotoa named captain with Mason Gordon at vice captain.
Two Queenslanders playing interstate for Brumby and Rebel respectively. How politically correct of the coach.

I am unclear to what you are suggesting here. My question is, do you think Grey should have chosen captains that are playing rugby in their state of origin? That would unravel most of the captains at state and national level and surely doesn’t weigh in on selection criteria.
