Kandos, NSW

Famous for its cement works.
Pies can be bought at the bakery (I've not eaten one of their pies, but eaten one of their pasties) .

Gwalia - WA

I'm going to push HJ's patience her by listing a town that is now officially abandoned. ~200kms north of Kalgoorlie and only a few kms away from Leonora. Famous for the Sons of Gwalia gold mine, but has been abandoned since the mine shut in 60's.

The mine re-opened in the 80's but the population has never come back as they commute from Leonora or FIFO.

Not as much as @boyo has pushed the patience with Young which has now been listed several times (and previously yellow carded).

The challenge is to find another town starting in Y and ending in G to link Lower Plenty to Gwalia.

What other that Yarramalong, NSW. Near Wyong on the Central Coast. Not much here apart from a general store, bottlo, Rural Fire Station and village hall. Pies and most other culinary items are strictly BYO. Local footy club would probably be the Ourimbah Razorbacks.

Kandos has been restored as the legitimate last town. Next Town to start with a S.

SIMPLE RULES.
Next town in the chain starts with the last letter of the previous town.
No previous entries.
A bit of trivia about the town is needed. - Preferably food, wine or rugby related trivia. Pie shop rating encouraged.
Use of resource material is discouraged but not against rules.

If you want to do a quick check if your "town" has already been used, click in the "Search" box just below your user name above.

Type in your "town".

REMEMBER to check the "Search this thread only" box in the options in the search popup.

If your "town" is not found in this search then it will be OK.

If it has already been used, then it will be disqualified and we revert to the previous "town's" last letter as the guide to the next "town".

I've got some friends one week into a year+ trip around Oz, turns out his love of pies have cured his vegetarianism so I pointed him to this thread.

His top two so far are Husky Bakery in Huskisson and the Barrengarry store in Kangaroo Valley.

Only thing is it's quite hard to lookup a pie shop from this, so what are the thoughts on sticking the pielights into a shared spreadsheet?

I set one up here, have a look and let me know what you think.

Sylvania Waters NSW. Home of Noeline and Laurie, who made this suburb famous around the world in 1992. Nearest footy club is Southern Districts (Hobbits) Club at Forshaw Park. About the only decent pie with sauce that you will get in this suburb is from the canteen at Forshaw Park on a Saturday watching the footy.

Sussex Inlet, NSW
I stayed on the Commonwealth side, no shops there, so no pies. I can't vouch for the NSW side.
Sussex Inlet connects St. Georges Basin to the Pacific Ocean. Good fishing.

Trangie (sorry about the 'e' ending!), NSW, home of Trangie Tigers rugby club in the Central West rugby competition's second division, correct me if I am wrong.

Am sure the pies there are of the generic variety, ie. Mrs Mac's

Nelson Bay, NSW. Surprisingly it is on Nelson Bay, near Port Stephens. Don't try to drive here on a long weekend unless you are very patient. Watch out for the Whale Watchers and Dolphin Spotters.
Enjoyed a wonderful Guinness Beef Pie at the Seabreeze Hotel many moons ago.

Baldric

Jim Clark (26)
Yarck - Vic. Home of the Tea Rooms at Yarck which is a great restaurant and worth the trip for a feed. You can also get a pie at a pie shop, but last time Baldric had a pie there he had to make a few unscheduled trips to the bush. Also famous for the saying, "where the fark is Yarck"

Kingscote, SA. Largest town on Australia's third largest island - Kangaroo Island. South Oz's oldest European settlement.

Forget about pies. The Lobster here is awesome, and at last count there are about a dozen wineries in close proximity as well. What more could you want in life, although no rugby is played here.:(

Bloody good thing that this town is named after the inlet, otherwise the game could almost have stalled with Xantippe in WA the only X town in Australia that could follow on from Sussex.

Back to the game. Next town is E from Kingscote.

Eradu, WA. Not much here apart from a postcode and an old railway station. Near Geraldton, it is 4414.3 km by road to here from The Corso in Manly. Turn right outside Irishtown WA or you will end up on Perth.

You could lead in with Kippax in the ACT. Back to the game

UKI - NSW

in the shadows of Mount Warning, the first bit of mainland Australia that the morning sun touches. It was the scene of a Robert G Barrett (RIP) novel and as far as food groups go, you would brain it if you made pizzas!!! The amount of pot that is grown around here is in the tonne, not the plant. The saddest part is, the pub BURNT DOWN in February! If you come here bring disposable razors for the hippies and Bacon for the vegetarians. Absolutely shits all over auburn

I beseech you Hugh, please forgive my wretched soul. :)
And a pub burning down is more important than a bloody butter shop too hehe. I digress
NUKKU - QLD

On the Toowoomba Road. Its a nothing place. Better than auburn and now to

UTCHEE CREEK - QLD

About half hour south west of Innisfail and just out of Germantown, you will find the quaintly named Utchee Ck. It was named by a New Zealand explorer Rangi Whatawera , who went swimming in the lice infected area of the creek and got out saying he was "utchy" ;)
In all it is in the heart of banana land and I would eat in Innisfail at the Cowboy Corner Cafe. Awesome Works Burger that is huge!!! Chips were great too.
The closest to famous persons are both five kickers Kerry Boustead and Billy Slater. Not that that makes them famous, but a Queenslander will clutch at anything!
