Yep there is an inherit ethical issue with promoting gambling, I'm personally not a fan of it, but at least it provides some long term financial stability to the Brumbies...

Some potential perks with the new deal:

It is the record $8 million sponsorship deal that could carry the bonus prize of a private jet previously used by NFL champions to boost the ACT Brumbies' bid for a Super Rugby championship dream.

The Brumbies snared the biggest naming-rights deal in the club's history on Thursday, partnering with development group Aquis and opening the door for the team to use the company's Boeing 757 corporate jet.

The jet, formerly used by 2013-14 NFL winners the Seattle Seahawks, could be used for matches in New Zealand or South Africa and halve the Brumbies' travel time from Canberra.

Aquis managing director Justin Fung told Fairfax Media that giving the Brumbies access to the jet was a realistic option as Canberra Airport is equipped to handle international flights.

It comes just two months after Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham had to cut $100,000 from his high-performance budget to save costs as the organisation covers financial losses.

The Brumbies will travel to New Zealand next week to play the Waikato Chiefs, which involves taking three different flights from Canberra to New Plymouth in a 14-hour trek.

Fung only learnt of the Brumbies' travel schedule when approached by Fairfax Media and was shocked that a 14-hour trip could take just five hours with a direct international flight from Canberra.

"Needing three planes to get to a game in New Zealand seems crazy ... we can't do that to the team," Fung said.

"That travel time is interesting, I'll have to see if the plane is available. I don't know where it is or if it has been chartered."

Congrats to all the Brumbies boys tonight!! What a game. You looked very classy. All the best for the season ahead. I hope this is just the beginning of a great season. I found it difficult to choose a Man of the Match. I thought Lilo, White and Kurindrani had greats games. Lineouts looked pretty impressive, first few scrums were interesting, but overall i think one of the better starts we've had for the past few years. Excited!!!

A great night for the Brumbies and a very enjoyable one for us fans.

Very pleased to see all the reserves get a run and all perform outstandingly. Scrum remained strong with the replacement front row; both Jordan Smiler and Ita Vaea played with enthusiasm and aggression; Michael Dowsett was very good and his passing was excellent; James Dargaville looks the goods and lived up to Bernie's assessment comparing him to Pat McCabe; and Lausii Taliauli did nothing wrong in his time on the ground.

All in all, a very comprehensive win with huge promise for the season ahead.

Any injuries of concern?

Very proud to hear that our Brumbies Runners went up to Sydney today and had a convincing win against the Waratahs Generation Blue side 31-0 at half time and full time score 41-14. I am aware that Larkham gave all the boys a rev up on the bus before they left Brumbies HQ this morning and they came away with the goods. Unfortunatley the U20's ACT went down to the NSW side in their trial match. Not sure who one the Australian Club Champs silverware. Good vibe for the beginning of the season for the young boys coming through. Congrats!!

Eastwood won the Club final. I've seen a lot of club games in my time but it was one of the best games I ever saw - when UQ scored a try on the bell and the very kickable conversion would win it - but it missed.

The Yahoos drinking in the club mocked the kicker when he was preparing for his kick and mocked him when he missed it - no class. A team mate rushed over to comfort the UQ kicker when he was on his knees in disappointment - class.

It was nice speech by Eastwood skipper Perret to the UQ boys and a nice one in reply. The Yahoos had gone by this time to have another drink.


It was a great performance by ACT A - they looked like real Super Rugby reserves whereas the NSW Gen Blue team looked like a Wider Training Group.

Staniforth and Enever were bullies of the Tahs for the whole game and flyhalf Iona was terrific at this level. It was good to see Ita Vaea back on the park.

But the main thing was not the individuals but the team - how they came off the line and relished the hard stuff.

JP Smith got a yellow card so I sat down next to him and had a yarn. What a character.



My word there were a lot of ACT players who could move up. There weren't so many for Gen Blue - but don't get me wrong, the best ones were good.

There was one fellow who looked handy for ACT who had 12 on his back. I heard he turned 18 just a few days ago. Maybe Canberra folks haven't heard of him but Sydney people have.

It was Henry Hutchison.

Add in the work that has been done in the US to get a foot in that market, AQUIS and the other sponsors on-board, new HQ etc - we just need to get traction with the local supporters to translate to big game day crowds to keep the momentum and with a bit of luck the Brumbies will become an international brand that will help provide financial security.

Because most of the population don't have much $$ to gamble so they mainly go to enjoy the quality accommodation, entertainment and hospitality; which we appreciate. We could question the ethics of banks with fees, the pollution from cars....the list goes on including if sport is not a business for profit and gambling then no would get paid. If I provide the water and you choose not to drink and die, I am doing something wrong or you? Your choice.

Anyone got a team list for the Brumby Runners? Other than those mentioned above, did Moggy, Auelua or Siliva get a game? Assume Doyle played 7. How about some of the youngsters. Did Ala'alatoa, Powell and/or Perry play? Who else played from the Brumbies squad on Friday night?

I think you might've imagined that...........

None of them were ever considered due to injury.

Auelua just had knee surgery and is out for another month or so..........

Mogg is a possible surprise admission this week and wasn't expected back until next month...........

Unsure about Siliva's ongoing injury status?

Doyle had a cracker apparently. I believe Ala'alatoa played, as well as most of the bench players from the night before.
Un-contracted players that played off the top of my head included twins Dean and Michael Oakman-Hunt, Henry Hutchinson, Andrew Robinson, Jerome Nuimata, Joe Powell, Tim Cornforth, Ratu Tagive. Rowan Perry is recovering from a shoulder reconstruction.

I watched Henry play in the GPS last year, thought he was highly overrated, was he really that good? I would be surprised....
