You may also wish to consider the opposing view as well. Should you wish to express your views about what is legal, ethical or morally right or wrong, you are in the wrong forum. This is a ruby forum, feel free to move on to your political and social forums, and not piss the rest of off who still like to choose if we want to drink, gamble, visit prostitutes, join a cult or smoke tobacco, hunt, cut down trees, swear, criticise dickheads who are hurting the game we love etc (most of which I do not partake in!).

I would also strongly encourage you to either put up or shut up! So, either accept and welcome Aquis as sponsor of the game for the greater good until the game is financially independent, or feel free to no longer support or watch the game in protest.

To be honest mate - I was just kind of laughing at the irony of it all. I don't have a massive problem with it, although it's certainly put a buzz up your bonnet for some reason. It's an online forum about rugby, in a thread about the Brumbies' 2015 season of which Aquis are now a title sponsor, and I was replying to a post talking about the ethical and moral nature of some of the Brumbies players.

I'll refrain from giving myself an uppercut and suggest that most of the people you think need one would do the same. Maybe just take it down a few dials and see the light heartedness of it all like Wilson has before you go bashing those keys?

Anyways - here's to a good win against the Chiefs on Friday eh? And how about the depth in that Runners side!

Buzz up my bonnet, being a little precious and over protective - I will put my hand and plead guilty as charged.

Simply put:

- Sponsorship is damn hard to find and worth less
-sponsors are becoming more fickle and precious about the $$$ they have and what they get for it
- pressure of public opinion, attention and scrutiny can be highly influential

Globally there are teams, clubs and sporting organisations having sponsors pull out mid contract in the last year (some were multi year million dollar sponsorships).

So, noting that the game is on a knife edge financially, the ARU has little to no bargaining power, most super rugby teams are running at a loss I will act a little precious about sponsors!

Joke, have fun, criticise whatever - just hope that Aquis don't misconstrue any comments, or feel uncomfortable with what's being bantered about on social media. They have already been publicly criticised by a few social welfare organisations and campaigners, and ACT Minister for Sports

Add in to the fact that Canberrians are have a history of stupidly publicly bagging their own team, and not support the game or incentive to expand it (Canberra Vikings) I think it best to tread cautiously.

All good mate - appreciate your point of view. We're both Brumbies fans, and on that basis I'm assuming we'd both hate for them not to exist because of being unable to find a title sponsor.

The run on No.6 was Dean Oakman-Hunt, who was then moved to N0.8 in second half and his twin brother Michael Oakman-Hunt came on at No.6 half way through the second half. The number 14 was Jerome Nuiomata?? spelling from Vikings.

They've all been around for a while. Carls had serious injuries so has had limited time on the paddock but very good footballer. The Oakman-Hunt twins have been playing first grade for a couple of seasons and represented Oz schoolboys a year or two before Andrew Robinson. Jerome has had a great NRC comp and consistent first grade season last year. I think all these boys have been training preseason with Brumbies??

Has anyone been to the http://aquiscasino.com/ site? The resort is huge and looks amazing.

I have no problems at all with a gambling company sponsoring the Brumbies, especially if they are creating resorts like that to visit.

The Telegraph is running with a story that the Brumbies may be looking to shift some home games to Homebush

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...er-waratahs-snub/story-fni2fxyf-1227226080907

If it was a game against the likes of the Lions, and they got a decent windfall, I wouldn't be entirely opposed. But I assume the Stadium Australia folk would want a game that's likely to draw a bigger crowd, maybe against an NZ team to cash in on expats in Sydney?

Very little substance to the article...........

Just a lot of speculation and hypothesizing.........

They better run me a bus there so I can get up and back... oh bugger I live in queensland and have to fly to games when i can.. But my membership dollars are important.

might be little substance to it but i can definitely see this occurring in the future if ANZ front up enough cash.

IIRC Homebush stadium has lost the regular Swans and Waratahs games for a long time (very long time in the swans case). They'd be keen for anyone to play there.

I doubt it, the crowd sizes are not feasible..........

They only got 13,000 against the Reds who are traditionally one of their biggest draws............

And I doubt the Brumbies will allow their biggest fixture of the year (Tahs) to be taken out of Canberra.

It wouldn't be a good idea for either party.

If the Stadium Australia mob were willing to hand over truckloads of cash then I can see an upside for the Brumbies.

If a game was to be moved, I reckon it'd be against someone like the Blues. Getting say 20K people through the gate (15K JAFAs plus some diehard Brums fans and bored Sydneysiders), together with a sweetener from the stadium - compared to 12K at Bruce - might sound tempting to the suits. I don't think anything will come of it though.

Anyway, it's full steam ahead for China!

The Telegraph also mentioned that the Brumbies deal with Bruce Stadium is up for renegotiation, so I suspect this is all just a bargaining ploy to get a better deal.

The low Canberra crowds are part of the reason it could occur... I can't imagine the Brumbies are taking much profit from crowds with crowds that small.. The AQUIS sponsorship is good, but additional revenue streams are needed.

For a bit of context around the conversation about "low" Canberra crowds:

ACT (whole Territory 386000) - working age 15-64 is 270,200 or 70% of the population.

So usual crowd average of 13510 is 8% of the working ACT population

Greater Sydney (not NSW whole state) working age population (15-64) is 3.23million

So a crowd of 32300 is 0.01% of the Greater Sydney working age population

Yes I'm aware Canberra is working off a smaller base, and this would be relevant if the cost of living and cost of operating a business in Canberra was proportionately cheaper.. .Which it isn't....

The smaller market is the reason the Brumbies whilst successful on the field have struggled financially off the field and will continue to do so, I don't think the Brumbies or Australian Rugby in general can afford to ignore a proposal from ANZ Stadium which could guarantee them a lucrative new income stream.

This might be all part of the Brumbies renegotiating with Canberra Stadium to get a cheaper deal, but I don't think it should come as a surprise if one game per season is shifted to ANZ Stadium.
