Season 2022 is done. It had some rough edges, but at least it was a full season.
To preface what I'm about to say: everyone here pretty much knows who I am, or has at least joined the dots by now. I am more active on this forum than other Board members, because ultimately I enjoy this kind of engagement - just lurking here gathering rumours would not be my style. I've made missteps in my comments on the Subbies threads
which is why I am fairly measued in my responses.
To the point: Communication is key.
A couple of accounts on here spray rumours or misinformation around, and suddenly it is fact in the minds of the crowd. A lie makes it halfway around the world before the truth gets out of bed, and Subbies is no different.
"Subbies" is not some opaque, all-powerful dictatorship, neither is it omnipotent. Getting everything right is tough even in a good year (and the last few years have been less than good). When decisions are made it is after all attempts at good communication.
Sometimes, mistakes happen or things don't turn out 100% well for everyone involved. That is true whether you're the Executive, the Board, a Club Committee, the Referees, Coaches, volunteers, or a player.
My suggestion is that if you hear something you think sounds outrageous, then by all means call your Club Committee / Executive and ask them.
If you're on the Committee of your club, you know that the lines of communication are open to Subbies staff and should feel free to use them.
If you're NOT involved in a club, and want to talk absolute rubbish about Subbies, I recommend thinking on a sign I saw at another sport: "Before you complain, have you volunteered yet?"
We're all trying to enjoy the great game, and should all be trying to help it grow. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism, provided it is directed with purpose.
