Man you guys are making me a little sick!

Do you really think he needed to give away a winners medal to show compassion for this poor downtrodden baby boy?

Or maybe it was enough to escort him back to his seat and take a few pics with him?

I don't question SBW motives - I just think he is a little insane or daft to do what he did.

There are much better causes in this world than a 14 year old pitch invaded who just had his parents give him a 300 or more pound ticket to the rugby!

Personally would have rather the kid who ran onto the pitch was not rewarded for it as only encourages pitch invasions which in this day and age everyone can understand I am sure for internationals why some concerns around. But equally would rather not see SBW criticized for spur of the moment thing. Act by SBW was in the right vein but the kid deserved to punished - not rewarded for running onto the field.

Be as cynical as you want about the actions of SBW, or the dastardly evil intentions of the kid, who was later found not to have any pointed sticks, bananas or raspberries with which he could attach his targets.

Go to 24-28 seconds in this clip. That is how Security could have dealt with the illegal pitch invader, instead of the Boris Johnson Crash tackle.

The Twickers Security Bloke had plenty of time to decide on an appropriate strategy to deal with the illegal terrorist pitch invader, and even then he goes all Kevin Costner to protect NZL's heavyweight boxing champion from a child.

It is not as if the kid was about to do a Pieter Van Zyl, and even if he was, look at how the professional athletes dealt with that imbecile.

great story about Beauden Barrett, obviously another one we should be proud he plays our game, as was the one I thought about David Pocock from Nigel Owens.. I am convinced on these further high notes I can probably retire form posting until at least after xmas and just live in my little cloud of contentment!! :)
Perhaps I'll see you all next rugby season!

What the security guard did was pretty irrelevant - the kid wasn't hurt, wasn't even crying or shaken up.

And the gesture was very spur of the moment, right after he'd taken a couple of minutes to walk over in front of the photographer bay.

But then World Rugby managed to hype the crap out of it as well - it's own presentation at the awards night - so I guess the circle jerk was complete

Disagree totally
what's your new rule big arse?
Anyone under 80kg has free reign to ignore rules?
I reckon the kid is stoked, being tackled and then meeting & getting photos with SBW is a win, then he gets the medal as a bonus.
Do it is Sydney and mummy gets a $5k? fine.

Getting outraged about someone doing the wrong thing being man handled is just way too precious.

Invaders Interrupting the game are fair game:
Although strangely, the courts dealt with the offenders differently in NZ.

From an earlier, more simple age:

Sometimes the pitch invader starts a little more action than simply gaining the attention of security:

Not suggesting that Under 80 kg should be free to ignore any rules, just suggesting that reasonable measures appropriate to the situation should be taken to remove them from the pitch once they gain access.

This guy broke the law (Speeding). Some folk got precious about the man handling he received for doing the wrong thing. Result 53 killed, circa 2000 injured, circa $USD 1b property damage.

HJ,seriously?
Your comparing a white privledged kid being crash tackled,to a black man being beaten with sticks by a group of policemen, who are then found not guilty on racial grounds, despite film footage proving their guilt?
Hmmmmm.
Not much else to say,

Security was lax on entry to the games I went to.
The potential for a pitch invader to do real harm is obvious.
Recent events do not rule out the possibility of a 14 year old committing heinous acts.
I'd rather a minor over reaction (when judged retrospectively) than a lot of regret that more wasn't done.
Unlike you to take this sort of line HJ.
